Terror Plot Foiled

ROME (Reuters) - Italian police have arrested around 40 people linked to Islamic groups after increased security checks following a foiled plot in Britain to blow up transatlantic airliners, an Interior Ministry source said on Friday.

The source said those arrested were suspected of various crimes but none had been detained on terrorism-related charges. The source added that Italy had also expelled 114 immigrants as part of the same operation.

45% of UK muslims apparently believe the US and Israel plotted 9/11

Not trying to spark another argument but those figures seem too wacky to be true... did their poll audience contain the most extremist Islamic zealots they could find or something?!

Just go on the 2nd as you have planned to do........ why change your plans??

Exactly, disturbing our way of life is one of the secondary goals of these sickos. And your mom is right imho, I'd rather go now while there's cops with P90's watching my back then later on when they all start to relax.

What many of us believe is that whlie the Muslims who are willing to enact terrorism are a consistent minority, those that share and support their exact political views are not so small in number.

Many surveys have come back with similar views, that a very large chunk of Muslims would support strict Islamic practices such as Sharia.

I don't know, It was the C4 Dispatches programme and their survey I believe.
I personally do not consider Dispatches to be a particularly radical programme with a hidden agenda though. Have you taken the survey yourself yet?

Not the same survey, I don't think, but YouGov carried out a survey on British Muslims which made for similarly shocking results.

6% of those surveyed thought the 7/7 attacks were justified, 32% described Western society as "decadent and immoral" with 1% saying Muslims should bring it to an end via violent means, 10% said they do not feel at all loyal towards Britain and 14% said they don't feel they have a duty to report suspicious activity within the community to police.

Wow ! The article seems to suggest that it is liked to a growing dislike of their Govt and this line was also interesting:

The survey found that people who regularly use the Internet and not mainstream media are significantly more likely to believe in 9/11 conspiracies.

Off Topic - but if they don't like western society, then either try and improve it by providing peaceful help to say, alcoholics, drig addicts etc, or other peaceful means, or go to Iran where they can follow Sharia law to their limbs content ;)

However, from any Muslim's i've ever met (I admit hardly any, although one of my employees is Pakistani), they feel very very angry at these extremists who are giving them all a bad name. As my technician said to me today, "if they don't like England so much, why did they come here? I love it here."

When 9/11 kicked off in the states groups were out in car parks in the uk burning flags.

Those involved were british people.

Then there are those who travel from britain to go to fight british troops in afghan and then fly home here to carry on living their lives.

I have a theory about this, with the anonymity of the web you can't see that the person whose convincing you of an alternative view is a fat 40 yrold loser who still lives with mum who's posting dressed solely in his dirty underwear. now if you'd seen this guy in real life you wouldn't trust him to tell the time but hidden behind your monitor your defences against stupidity aren't as good.

Hehehe well it could be that or it could be that some of the conspiracy websites are really well put together and thought out and the stuff they have on them is never in the mainstream media.

By the same token, why should we believe The Beautiful People, just because they're on TV?

Although, I would happily believe anything that a girl with great norks tells me.

True but these sites often require detailed knowledge to rebut their fallacies. Knowledge that most wont have, so unless yu go looking for a counter argument its easy to be convinced. At least in the MSM if a program itself is one sided someone else will make a counter.

Cos my 40yr old loser is more likely to have the time to devote to convincing others of his beliefs, which are unlikey to be subject to criticism, this loner is not going to want more rejection so will avoid such encounters by only interating with others with alternative views until a critical mass of such losers is reached. Bouyed up by acceptance from a comunity for the first time he now has the emotional strength to face the outside world and to seek converts amongst the normal.

ROME (Reuters) - Italian police have arrested 40 people in a security swoop targeting Islamic groups following a foiled plot in Britain to blow up trans-atlantic airliners, the Interior Ministry said on Friday.

The ministry said in a statement the arrests were carried out throughout Italy "during a special operation that follows the British anti-terrorism operation yesterday".

A ministry source said those arrested were linked to Islamic groups, adding that none had been detained on terrorism-related charges.

Twenty-eight people were detained for violating rules on residency permits and 12 for property crimes.

The arrests were made in Milan, Rome, Venice, Florence, Naples and other cities on Thursday and Friday.

The police raids targeted "Islamic gathering places such as call centres, Internet points and money transfer" offices, the ministry's statement said.

Authorities also expelled 114 immigrants as part of the same operation.

Italy has stepped up security after news of the plot that British police said on Thursday they had foiled, although no special measures have been taken and authorities have said there is no specific sign of a terror alert for Italy.

Italy's centre-left government, which has just freed thousands of detainees under a mass pardon and relaxed rules for immigrants to gain Italian citizenship, is under pressure from the opposition to show it is not lowering its guard on security.

On Friday, police searched the houses of 15 foreigners, most of them Pakistanis, as part of a joint operation with Belgian police probing suspected funding of an alleged terrorist organisation, the Interior Ministry said.

Last year, Italian police arrested more than 140 people in security raids and expelled hundreds of immigrants following bombings in London and Egypt.

Well we're both about as Muslim as each other, so why don't you take it first and I'll be right behind you ;)

I've taken it already. I was suprised that a lot of the time mt views were reasonably consistent with theirs. However on a few soico political ones they were wildly different.
