Tesco Value is being replaced.

I have a Tesco Megastore 5 minutes walk, a Sainsbury, Iceland, Asda, ALDI. Lidl and Waitrose 10 mins away.

I shop in all but Lidl. That is completely ***** and its what i imagine shopping in Mogadishu to be like. Some of the German branded stuff is a nice difference but its not even on par with Asda....

I like Asda over all, their fruit and veg is about the same as Tesco in my store.

Waitrose there basics range is on par with other store branded stuff, not their value range, but then it costs 10% minimum more.

I also have a Huge Market for fruit and veg -Much better than any supermarket, but as a non driver its a mare to get home :)

Just remember that rich people are rich because they are tight :D

The 'Chosen by you' brand from asda is a nice balance between quality and price although the asda smart price is generally better quality than tesco value.

How can you not see it for yourself?

M&S/Waitrose are "at the top"
Sainsbury's
Tesco
Morrisons
ASDA
Iceland
Aldi/Lidl/Netto at the "bottom"

That's how I see it. Iceland is only fractionally above Aldi, Lidl and Netto though. :p

Although I agree entirely, what with certain places being aimed for (and attracting) certain demographics.

We should not become distracted by that list you created there, sure it's probably correct "class" wise, but perhaps not entirely accurate "quality" wise.

Just how often do you shop at Aldi? Albiet their stores are a dysfunctional chaotic mess they do have plenty of fantastic products at fantastic prices.

There's a Tesco pretty much everywhere, except within quick walking distance of the market. And close to the market there's Marks and Spencer and Sainsbury's.

Where is Tesco apart from the big one on Newmarket Road (that smells a little funny)? I live over in Robinson College, so it's a trek to get anywhere except the Co-op at the end of Grange Road :p (although the Citi 4 bus does go from Robinson to Cambourne for the Morrisons - only worth it if you're getting a meal at the café!)

I spend the weekends over in Milton Keynes (lucky me) so I end up doing my shopping there, there's a big Waitrose and Sainsbury's in the centre that suits us fine.

We used to have a safeway that got destroyed and has been replaced with an Aldi. At the start I had a daft opinion on it really and it wasn't cool for parents to shop there whilst at school.

Being the closest we use it a lot and for most things it's really good. They have a lot of Scottish products of good quality, stock quite a few different meats and cheese which is also good.

Brown bread, milk, norpak, benefit cereal(pretty much special K to my mouth!)...actually most of the cereals are brilliant. The 6 apple pies for 65p hit the spot aswell!

My sainsbury's demographic is 90% people >65 9% >75 1%>90 years old.

I feel like its the 1940s all over again

Nothing says new money quite as much as making a deicision where to buy groceries based on how "respected" a supermarket is perceived.

Hehe, you guys really don't understand the buying power that Tesco and their buyers have.

I don't fully either but my other half works for them and has worked with many of their buyers over the years on a variety of categories.

Some of their value products have been pretty good actually!

There's a Tesco Express on East Road, Mill Road and one at Cineworld/The Junction.
I think the little post office hidden behind that Co-op is a bit cheaper on some things.

Aldi and Lidl have lots of nice food in and it is much cheaper than the big supermarkets. It is called being thrifty and savvy. Nothing to do with being a skint pramface on benefits

Morrisons have already rebranded their Value stuff at the beginning of the year to M Savers. They have drawings on the packaging instead of the 'one style fits all' design.

Oh and Netto doesn't exist in the UK anymore. Not since last year! :D

I'm a morrisons convert. Don't see many of them down here and I tried one when they had a beer I like on offer.

Compared to other supermarkets in cambridge their meat section kicks the backside out of the others for price and quality. Plus you can pick up some interesting cuts.

Their bakery products and pies etc are awesome, so much choice!

You definitely see a class system in the supermarkets in cambridge as well. Asda is by far the worst of the lot. It's like every member of the Jeremy Kyle show is in attendance. I have no idea why, it must be the perception of price.

I'm quite partial to some aldi shopping these days, used to only go in for special offers but got used to picking up a few bits and pieces and was surprised by some of the stuff. The mini egg clones 50p for an equivalent sized bag are awesome and I think better than the cadburys ones :D
