Whats the point in a "Value" range of products that are generally crap and not fit for purpose?

I have just spent about 50p (!) on a Value can-opener only to break the damn thing opening my can of Beans!

I would not mind if it had given many years service, it merely lasted for half a can lid!

The above said, I am the kind of chap who breaks door handles off cars etc, perhaps "Value" is not for me? :p

Anyway, on the bright side, the beans went down well. :)

Valued food > valued item.

Food is food

crap quality items break on first use.

or perhaps you are just really unlucky?

*EDIT* but seriously, them valued canned meats tastes like wax mixed in with pig's eyeballs

Some tesco value products are ok, some are dire. You've just gotta play the Russian Roulette known as bargain hunting for a while and learn which is which.

As with all things in the world you get what you pay for.
In the past I've eaten from the Tesco value line and although it doesn't taste as good it certain is "fit for purpose".

As for your tin opener.
I could go out now and spend £10 on one and there is the chance it could fail and break on the first tin I try it on.
I could go and spend £1000 on a new LCD television only for it to power up, immediately go dead and never display a thing again.
It happens - return it for a refund or replacement.

Not using Tesco anymore, the quality of some of the food is shocking. Fruit and veg for example will be rotting within a few days. Fresh fruit and veg will last 2 weeks if kept properly.

Where will it end with Tesco?. I'm keen on using local independent shops as the service and quality I have experienced is far better so much better that I don't mind paying a little extra. I use these shops as I don't want to loose them and be forced through the supermarkets door.

Doesnt it depend on how much chemical stuff is poured on them? If they are drenched in chemical preservatives, they will last 2 weeks. Or am i talking rubbish?

I've always found this too, they fruit and verg is rank, goes off in days.

Pre packaged salads are normally off.

Didn't one of those cheapo supermarkets win fruit and veg retailer of the year last year ? may want to check those out.

Not as bad as morrisions though, there choice of fruit and veg is very limited in al stores i've ever been in.

I use the value frozen chicken portions as dog treats, not much use for them apart from that.

I spent £12 on a fancy looking Garlic Crusher in Sainsburys.
It lasted 3 crushes - then was useless.

I spent £26 on a high pressure electric car tyre pump (well known brand - designed for Caravan tyres)
I used it 3 times, then on the 4 attempt at pumping a tyre (with it taking about 35 mins) - I finally realised it wasn't actually pumping anymore. Unfortunately, this was about 2 years after I had bought it - so I couldn't take it back. I would expect a bit more than 4 uses.

Just cause it's reasonably expensive doesn't mean it's going to last - and by the same token - I have spent pittance on some stuff, and they are fantastic quality.
ie. A clothes line in Lidl - One of the strongest, best value for money things we have ever bought - better than anything I have seen since (not that I look at clothes lines much)

The value food isn't there to directly replace the higher price stuff and be as good. It's there to be a much cheaper alternative, giving you the choice on how much you spend.

You wouldn't but a daewoo matiz and then go on to moan that it turned out to be not as good as a BMW would you.

A few years ago Tesco Value stuff was pretty good, however over the last couple of years not only have they been ramping up the prices they have also been cutting the quality down as well
