Tesco "Value" - More like Tesco **** !!

The value food isn't there to directly replace the higher price stuff and be as good. It's there to be a much cheaper alternative, giving you the choice on how much you spend.

You wouldn't but a daewoo matiz and then go on to moan that it turned out to be not as good as a BMW would you.

No but I'd expect it to at least start in the morning !!

Valued food > valued item.

Food is food

crap quality items break on first use.

or perhaps you are just really unlucky?

*EDIT* but seriously, them valued canned meats tastes like wax mixed in with pig's eyeballs

It is fact that value in store branded foods like meats/chicken etc contain a large amount of "fattening" to make it loopk better. Meat with large amounts of water etc.

Reserach was done on a tv prog recently!

Back when I was starting uni, my Mum insisted on buying me a tesco value vegetable knive. Within 6 months the blade came out of the handle when I was cutting up a swede. I then went and got a proper knife that I'm still using 8 years later.

PK!

its called economic sabotage - the supermarket is big and wants to appeal to target as much of the population as possible in one area - they want to generate revenue from ****** but don't want to slash prices and lose money from the normal customers - simple solution is to have the value range - in some cases they will brand the exact same product in value packaging and sell it for less - normal customers will carry on buying the normal stuf and they can generate revenue from the ******.

Same with say computer hardware - the manufacturer develops a new high end chip or graphics card but also want to target the lower ends of the market - the easiest solution(rather than developing a separate product) is to somehow sabotage/limit the high end product in order to sell it at a lower price as a different product.

A classic example would be the 486 processor.
Available in two main flavours, SX & DX.
The difference - the DX processor had a maths co-processor, the SX didn't.

The truth is that the chips all came from the same line and the maths co-processor was simply disconnected on the SX processor.
Although the SX processor sold for less (due to no maths co-processor) it actually cost them more to produce it because of the line cutting.

A more modern example would be current processors.
Nearly all i7 CPU's will come off the same production line, however some will be sold as 2.66GHz whereas others 3.1GHz.

Only tesco value good things I've found:
Plain chocolate,
digestives
cooking bacon
market value(I think this is the same) bananas
orange juice

I think a lot of the replies in this thread are the typical over-the-top 'I still live with my parents but will pretend I don't' replies that infest this forum.
Of course Tesco Value products in general will be of inferior quality to brand name products. It's all about choice. Can you afford something better? Do you think the difference in quality justifies the additional expense? If so then don't buy the value stuff! As for the veg rotting faster - that's not been my experience. One carrot rots as fast as the next one in my kitchen.

Was that all in one sandwich and then washed down with bleach?

Half that TV list is of food you shouldn't really be eating if you want a healthy diet anyway.

Rice
Eggs
chicken fillets

they are the only ones worth buying, but......

You can probably drop the eggs and chicken from the list as well if they are battery farmed..
