Tesla

Does anyone actually own 'their' less than 3 year old car now? Thought the vast majority are owned by fiance companies unless I missed something....

I'm used to it. I had more negative remarks when I owned TVRs than I do now. Most people are intimidated by change and disruptive technologies such as Tesla and others that give two fingers to the establishment. I'm one of the odd ones as I'm attracted to those qualities and enjoy being part of the disruption. :)

This post confuses me.

What disruption?

How are you giving two fingers to the establishment by driving a Tesla?

Lovely car OP, and it's something I'd like to have one day. The only thing that struck me last time I had a look at one up close was that it didn't feel premium enough. The exterior panelling felt a bit flimsy and they looked misaligned with fairly big gaps in between the panels. Maybe this was just a one off, but considering the cost of the P90D I was looking at, this struck me as a poor quality.

Love the tech and love the insane acceleration though!

Theres a couple of people got them on the site I work. It's weird, you just don't notice them unless you look for it. No noise and they look rather bland :p

The problem is they are still really expensive for what they are. 10-15k of the cost is just batteries. That's about 10 years worth of petrol to most people.

also a fan boy, chance of getting one is very slim maybe in 2225 ish when second model 3s are about for much cheaper

Do they have an estimates on how long the batteries will last?

why does it confuse you, tesla is being disruptive and shaking up the industry, companies ignored them for to long and are now having to play catch up

and then I forgot who, but another big car company said they simply could not compete with tesla on a technological basis and wouldn't be releasing a luxury electric car for many years until they can catch up.
And that's before we consider their energy products which are even more disruptive, and yet some are still shorting them, madness they are far more than a car company, something these "experts" haven't grasped yet.

also cant wait for supercharger v3 announcement when ever that will be. the patent in the news for automated charging is awesome and they have a permit for a version 3 supercharger at their factory, so hopefully we might here more soon.

Saw my first X the other day.

Lol, what does that matter? Can't you afford the finance?

I presume if you're a home owner you paid cash then?

I own mine, 14 month old car. Your point being?

Calm down, I'm pretty sure that comment was made in response to the slightly paranoid point made in post #14.

I like that Tesla have taken the electric car and made it into something you might aspire to owning. A big step for electric as a whole IMHO, just as the Leaf was bringing the image of an electric car from a G-Wiz to something you could actually drive on the roads like any other car.

Even as a petrol head, I lust after the Model S.

Alas, I don't have 50k+ laying around, and hate to think of finance implications - or the idea of owing the bank that kind of Money!

Lovely.
I would have one now if I could afford it. Maybe in a few years time as I've said that my current XJ will likely be the last ICE car I buy. I just wish the Germans would pull their fingers out and produce something electric with the range of a Model-S but the build quality of a BMW. I just don't understand why they don't.

The batteries last a long time, BUT it's a huge cost to change them when they do go, it will be far more than the car is worth and you can't DIY fix/maintain them like a ICE car as it's all sealed modules. If you keep your car for a long time it's not a good investment. I can't imagine there will be many "classic" EVs still running in 20 years time.
