Tesla

Lovely car OP, and it's something I'd like to have one day. The only thing that struck me last time I had a look at one up close was that it didn't feel premium enough. The exterior panelling felt a bit flimsy and they looked misaligned with fairly big gaps in between the panels. Maybe this was just a one off, but considering the cost of the P90D I was looking at, this struck me as a poor quality.

Love the tech and love the insane acceleration though!

Apparently there are plenty of Americans rejecting their cars due to the quality and fit of the panels, so it isn't an isolated issue.

They are probably fitting panels by hand and don't put time in to aligning them properly. A bit like old British cars which came out of the factory wonky :p

Not good when your paying 50k+ though.

The batteries last a long time, BUT it's a huge cost to change them when they do go, it will be far more than the car is worth and you can't DIY fix/maintain them like a ICE car as it's all sealed modules. If you keep your car for a long time it's not a good investment. I can't imagine there will be many "classic" EVs still running in 20 years time.
how many cars have that sort of mileage on them anyway.. essentially they last life of the car and continue to drop in price at a rapid rate. Most cars in the uk seem to go to the scrappy before 200k

model s and x are artificially priced high to pay for model 3 they've been very open about this. the fit and finish as well as the interior is something they've hired some great industrial leaders ona and are trying to improve. its the whole early adopter issue

Love the Tesla model S , would love to own one, but by the time i could afford it the batteries would have a 3 mile range on them, I've seen a couple Model X now, not that keen on it's shape, and would be paranoid about the doors, but it would be awesome to show off in.

Hopefully Lucid can get the Air out to compete with Tesla so the prices start to drop a bit.

Love to idea of electric cars, just need some competition.
With electric cars i always thought the way forward would be to have inductive charging built into the motorways, how much charge would it add having the roof made out of a solar panel.

far to expensive and a panel would add nothing.

I love the look of these but like many have said, was very disappointed with the interior quality when I got a chance to get in one.

They need a small thorium reactor :D

Also the tech in the interior is better than anything from Merc and BMW. There is also the fact that they are constantly updating it, the 'giant iPad' is completely different now to when it launched and all done over the air.

Not sure thats really true based on what you have in the S-Class

Lovely.
I would have one now if I could afford it. Maybe in a few years time as I've said that my current XJ will likely be the last ICE car I buy. I just wish the Germans would pull their fingers out and produce something electric with the range of a Model-S but the build quality of a BMW. I just don't understand why they don't.

Wrong side of the channel mate ;) Although the recent Audi EV Sportback concept does look good.

Exactly this, their tech isn't just focused on the car market.

The battery wall thing they've been developing for homes, can you imagine how much this would stir up the energy market if houses can run solely and reliantly on their own generated solar electric 24/7.

Yes the start-up costs are likely to outweigh any potential savings, but look at how affordable solar panels have become in the last 10 years.
When they become mainstream, then it'll be a case of most houses having them.

Really want to drive one, but don't have it in me to go and waste a salesmans time. Someone bring theirs up to Glasgow and let me have a shot. I can take you out in a Renault Zoe to sweeten the deal.

What will happen is fixed costs will rise through the roof so you'll end up paying about the same now, except the proportion of that being actually energy costs will be minimal.

I am currently running a trial of some sophisticated logging and analysis of my own solar system using a zinc bromine flow battery. Tech is already there.

Does anyone actually own 'their' less than 3 year old car now? Thought the vast majority are owned by fiance companies unless I missed something....

Well, we own the wife's, but it's only a Juke.

Was 2 and a half years old when we bought it in January.

We own the Mondeo as well, but that was 3 years and 4 months when we bought that 2 and a half years ago lol.

Well, as it happens I had a passenger ride in an 85 yesterday.

CHRIST ON A ROCKET BIKE!!!!!

Ridiculous car and utterly incredible. The acceleration is hard to explain, just a single and uninterrupted surge of G-Force, that put a tailgating A6 out of sight :D

Interior seemed nice, was comfortable and that 17" I pad thingy looked great with the big satnav.

Autopilot was quite disconcerting, but worked really well and we didn't destroy a line of nuns on the pavement.

Would love one!
