Tesla

Does look amazing but I worry about the huge deposit and the fact they can't get anywhere near meeting Model 3 demand right now.

I can see them ending up using deposits for future cars to make the current ones and that's not sustainable.

My 2p..

0-60 in 1.9 seconds according to details online as I haven’t watched the event yet is for the base model.... with faster to come.

1,000 signature edition models at $250k for full upfront cost is nice $250m and then $50k deposit for the standard model for god knows how much, that’s gonna help cash flow and capital issues while model 3 production rams up.

As a Model S owner, I avoided the p100d as for the difference between that and my 100d, was hard to justify. Howeve, the range and performance while still being useable here interests me. $50k deposit is hard to do when no info on when it will reach the UK..

Roadster looks fantastic.

You see its things like that that put me off Tesla. The "easter eggs" they do and the downloadable updates for your car, like buying a better club in Golf Clash except this particular micro transaction will cost you ten grand. They come across like they aren't a proper company but their products aren't exactly joke money.

There also comes a point where you just have to stop really caring about 0-60 on a road car. The comparison with the roller coaster is a good one. I've been on it and the acceleration is mental. The idea of people accelerating quicker than that on the road with all of the unpredictable factors of other people, road conditions etc. Scary!

You can already accelerate close to that fast on the road... But all the cars that can do so cost a similar amount to the Roadster so you never actually see it. I don't see how this will change anything, it's not like it's a £20k car that will be common.

this is a low production car, so nothing like the m3, and its not a large amount of money when they do several billion rounds of funding.
arent most supercars high reserve price and a waiting list.

I wouldn't say that Tesla have microtransactions though - Being able to update your car at a later date is a good thing IMO.

For instance: You might not be able to afford a Model 3 with the Enhanced Autopilot, but later during ownership you might have the money and can pay to unlock it.

As opposed to most cars where 'optional extras' cannot be retrofitted once the car has been manufactured.

Yes the cars have all the hardware already, so you could argue that making the Enhanced Autopilot an extra £5000 is completely arbitrary, but they are a business that needs to show profit to investors.

I think Tesla's appeal to geeks with money as well, as opposed to real die hard petrol heads.

The sort of person who buys a 200K roadster might not be the sort of person who would spend that sort of cash on a Mclaren 720S for instance.

Not sure. £200k is deep into serious super car territory or a fleet of really great cars.

I wouldn't say deep, do you know what a Ferrair 488 costs? Easily over £200k. And this car makes it look slow, and will travel much further between stops, and will be able to drive into towns that have banned ICEs, and has far more luggage space, and will probably have more safety kit. Enough 'and's for you? :)

And the time at stops will be much longer than with a 488, and will never sound as good. ;)

Some great technology behind it, just not quite at the point of no return for the ICE just yet.

Plus the roadster has 4 seats, not 2.
rear seats are small.

just seems some people think this is a mass-produced car. It isn't it's a supercar at supercar prices, for example, they sold just 2500 original roadsters. Think they'll easily beat that, but this is very much a low production car.

lol, most of the time you won't stop at all, you'll charge at home, you will be spending far more time refuelling an ice super car than this thing.

With a 600+ mile range I reckon even with longer stops you might still beat a 488 to its destination, assuming the same cruising speed.

And yes, as you say there is far less noise pollution from the Tesla.
