I would like to get out and test drive more cars, I have noted rather handy features on websites, where you put your name and address in to arrange a test drive :D

I have so far done :-

  1. Skoda Superb
  2. Subaru Legacy Boxer Diesel
  3. 5cyl Mondeo
  4. New Insiginia
What else is worth going for (I know the skoda isn't worth going for, but I would like to anyway)

Just wanted to know; are these all brand new cars that you test drive at dealerships? I assume when you put your details on the manufacturer (?) website, the info goes to the closest dealership and they phone you?

Ive done a few over the past couple of years, but I was at some stage or the other intending to buy the said car, or at least had it shortlisted. Not sure I have the time to randomly test drive cars I dont intend on buying. Except my brother got offered a 3 day test drive on a Corsa VXR, which is quite tempting!

Impreza STI (hawkeye)
Nissan 350Z
Clio V6 Mk2
Evo 8 FQ300 & 260
BMW M3 (E46)
Clio 197

Only one I ever had trouble with was the 350Z, the first dealer I went to didnt help me in the slightest, so I went next door and test drove the Clio. Then I found another dealer who was much more helpful.

Is it worth doing test drives of newer cars even though you can only afford an older, less specced version and the experience will vary largely (I assume)?

Are you considering buying any of these, or just doing it for the hell of it?
Just for the hell of it, I have put aside 2 hours on a Friday afternoon for these.
Oooh, tell us about that diesel Legacy - that engine really interests me.

Actually, tell us how they all drove :p
I have the test on Friday :D

Meh.

OK,

Got Skoda and Legacy in today, called Merc dealer for a test on an E-Class, didn't ring back.

Ford don't have any 5cyl mondeos and any on autotrader are too far away.
I don't want go anywhere near vauxhall as they cost me £200 this week.

Next week will be Lexus GS and Merc, hopefully.

Have you had any extended (24-48 hour) test drives?

I have been offered 911's for the weekend or for a 24 hour test. When it was snowing last year my mate got a call from his local OPC offering him a 997 Turbo for the bad weather so he kept his GT3 clean. They gave it him for 2 days even though he said he wasn't buying and wasn't interested they were still happy to let him have it. He took it back after one day as he felt guilty and they got into his ribs for not enjoying it another day!
