Test Limit? What do you think?

Nope there should be no limit, a lot of people who fail repeatedly just get stupidly nervous. They can drive fine with there instructor/on there own. But when it comes to a test they fall to bits.

but does a stupidly nervous driver make a good driver?

Should really only get one go at it imho, after that you should get a psychological examination to test whether you are really fit for the road, if you pass that then your instructor should be ssuspended for letting you sit the test when you weren't equipped to pass it.
Then every man, woman and child related to that instructor must be brutally murdered in a sick ritual of public lashing, in case the chance that the evil gene known as "misjudgement" is pulsing through their veins as well

I think if people cant pass the test after there 5 attempt then they should have to go and do some advanced driver training so they get more confidence and learn more control skills.

It might not help with the road rules but it would help with confidence and skills that one day might save there life.

Then they can go and try do the test again :)

The only obvious contradiction to that rule is the Pass Plus course, but then you are a learner again, albeit on a full licence.

So really the instructor can claim they are on pass plus and its fine then.... sounds like a pretty flawed argument to me

Fear keeps you safe.

Fear can stop you from being over confident, but also can make the driver hesitant and does nothing for nerves.

Like another poster in this thread I have had people brake to standstill at the end of a motorway slip road and they nearly ended up wearing 1.5 tons of Saab in their boot. I have also seen others that seem utterly reluctant to merge into a gap in the traffic (or don't know the size of their car) on a motorway and as they reach the end of the slip road start to panic as they end up on the hardshoulder.

And how many drivers to you see get onto the motorway, immediately get into the middle lane and then proceed to drive along at 60mph clutching the steering wheel so hard that the knuckles go white.

yes, cos there nor nervous that there driving, or the amount of cars or anything else. Its the fact its a test. End off. They are perfectly fine and capable drivers now.

Don't think there should be a limit in place really. Though I would like to see the test a little longer to make sure more varied roads can be involved. Also a short section of commentary would be a good idea.
