Testing the NVIDIA GTX 970 with IC DIAMOND

Was reminded of this thread as I went to re-paste my GPU earlier with my ICD I had from awhile back. It's a replacement GTX 780 I got after I had to RMA mine. I noticed it was running a bit hotter than my last one, then I found out why

No paste on part of the core at all! ICD on and temps down 9C. Had a similar sort of drop when I had it applied on my 6970 a couple of years back too. Good stuff :)
Thats a pretty decent temp drop. Tempted to try this on one of my 780's. Top card in my sli setup can run upto 20c hotter than the bottom one, (85c vs 65c). Of course some difference is normal in sli, and theese are non ref cards. But may be worth a shot even if it is only a few c.

I did this the other night actually. My 970 Strix cards were running a little hot and was concerned at the over application of paste as stock.

Saw a nice drop in temps when the fans are passive and about 8c when under full load. For anyone who doesn't mind dropping warranty on there cards .. apart from evga owners because evga OWN that warranty right there, this is a worthwhile investment. and a fun thing to do / learn for anyone who hasn't "fiddled" with graphics cards internally before.

harry5522, could you resize those images or place in spoiler tags please. Thanks.
