TF2 Awash with Hackers?

Possibly because ive seen that 99% of cheat accusations are actually wrong, ive only ever seen 2 cheats on tf2 and both were because i heard someone was cheating on a server so i went to go and have a look, never just happened to bump in to one and i have played tf2 a LOT. Been called a cheat in tf2 many a time too so you get the picture.

Just how do you hear about these hackers? Most people just move servers if they suspect a hacker, they don't go posting about them straight away or get on MSN telling everyone. Tbh, I think you are making stuff up in order to provide your side of the arguement with some substance!

I have been playing online games for years and years, you do get hackers, its a fact of life.

I have been accused several times of hacking, even banned once. I am a very good player (apart from CSS) on the whole, some days I will play amazingly and others I just can't get into the game properly and bounce from server to server and then just quit the game.

It is obvious if someone is cheating, especially to someone with half a brain. Yes, most accused cheats are just very good players but you do get those that have to cheat in order to give their lives some meaning!

Only hacks Ive seen are Aimbot / Wallhack / Anti Cloak hack and Anti Recoil hack.

Due to the way TF2 classes work, a lot of the classes dont work particularly well with an Aimbot but the Wallhack and Stealth hacks could be very useful if used correctly :/

Anyhoo... I cant say Ive seen many cheaters and when I have its been pretty obvious. Only had one on our server though :) enjoyed kick banning him hehe

Maybe I just play on crap servers or what (*ahem*), but never seen either myself or anyone else falsely accused of cheating. The overall maturity level in TF2 is one of the highest I've seen in an online game tbh.

I suggest you get irc, on quakenet. I regularly talk to the larger GSP admins and also hang around with the large league admins. Its there that any news/complaints come in first so i like to amuse myself by going to kill the hacker :) often it turns out to be some poor guy that i inflict death upon but sometimes its a genuine hacker :D

I will not say that there are no hackers for certain, but honestly I have never noticed anything blatant. However TF2 is not "awash with hackers"

I would assume that VAC would pick up on blatant hacks such as speed, extra health etc... Sometimes I get owned but that wasn't hacking they were just better - also makes me improve as a player.

PS: I hate spy class (really) they are cowards , when I get killed too many times I change to Pyro and burn them to a crisp :p

VAC isn't worth anything. The only real defence against hackers (who do exist) is a good mod team, as mentioned.

i was playing mass-public servers (like the old UK2.Net servers, about 50 servers with no admins) so it's understandable.

honestly watch youtube, you'll see how blatant it is. Hacks are easy to find, it's not a difficult world to get in to.

Your choice of servers does little to help to your view of the world, uk2 have always been renound for being the worst GSP in a long long time.

Unfortunately with regards to the blatantness of cheats i'd bet that you wouldnt notice a good cheater :( the bad ones are those that run around with auto aims bouncing around the maps, the good ones will perhaps just use a wallhack to see their surroundings more than aim for people around a corner. Its those people that will very rarely slip up and let on that theyre cheating. With practice they can get away with it for months.

I can count the definite cheaters Ive seen on one hand :/ and Ive been playing since TF2 was released.

Like Anim said though, the people who cheat well wont be detectable just by watching because theyll just use the wallhack / stealthhack carefully not to make it obvious :/

I've only got around 30-40 hours clocked, but even so, I've only ever seen one [blatant] occurrence of cheating - basically some kind of infinite Uber bug for a Medic, just the day after the Medic-Unlock Patch came out. The little **** was some American on the mic, too, bitching about how griefing people like this was the only thing that made TF2 fun for him, and how he was so bored of it. Really annoying to say the least.

I also reckon most accusations are wrong; I must've clocked hours upon pure hours over the years on TFC as a Sniper, so I've headshotted cloaked/cloaking Spies from impossible angles in 2Fort too, but simply because you can predict their paths if you see them as they begin to cloak, or if an explosion lights them up. Have to go with the 'there's a lot of n00b accusers' mob here. :P

I play pretty much on a daily basis, and I can't say I've ever seen a single bona-fide hacker. A few suspicious ones, but I do believe that a badly organised team can make good opposition look like they are hacking.
If one team is running about like monkeys, it's not hard for a scout from the other team to bat a fair few of their heads in.
