TF2 Awash with Hackers?

got accused of cheating, not my fault i know a few good sniping spots especially on dustbowl. had the game since release and never nor will i ever cheat on it. there'll be no feeling of acomplishment the day i better my 36 snipe streak :) that's it just walk through those gates muuhahaha.

I've only experienced cheating once but it was definitely cheating with a sniper! His score was HUGE and he only ever had headshots. I walked out completely cloaked as a spy and waited for him to shoot and each time he hit me whilst cloaked with a headshot along with everyone else around me!

Havent played it since as it put me off the game :(

rofl!

if I didn't like to have an image, that quote would *so* make my sig :P

Well, to be fair I'm not the most informed person on hacks, but I assumed that aimbots wouldn't be used for melee weapons. It doesn't exactly take a great deal of skill to aim a melee weapon at someone.

On the topic of TF2, I don't see why people needs hacks really, it just ruins the game. Especially one like TF2 :(

With the scout's defense being speed and fast-moving enemies adding to the partially dodgy hitboxes it can get rather frustrating trying to bat someone (not so much with other classes like the heavy, soldier, pyro etc etc.)

I once hit a cloaked spy with a sniper shot. It was pure luck as i was aiming for the heavy behind him he just happened to get in the way at the wrong time. Got accused of cheating because of that one shot lol.

fair point, but aimbot isn't the only hack in the game ;)

I've seen scouts running mega fast, baseballing people like a ninja, I've seen medics perma-ubered, I've seen snipers get headshots on Scouts, and even cloaked spies.

There's an abundance of hacks, but fair play to Valve, I've seen every one of them get a fix within a day or two.

GJ valve :)

on a side note, back when I was in a clan, I would never ban someone straight off - just seems a bit extreme + you better be a 100% sure that he/she is hacking.

I think I have only ever banned 2 people for cheating on R6 RVS after checking in spec mode and it was obvious and 100% certain (they had recoil hack on a FAMAS whis is too obvious and lightning speed hack where the guy was in enemy spawn is a few seconds after round starts) - usually I will give warning and then kick. after 3 kick = ban. Most people I have banned their accounts were not hackers but rather rude and annoying players (ie spawn teamkillers, poor teamplay etiquette, etc...) but even then they got multiple warnings.

Think people should chill out before giving out bans like the were free shampoo samples at Tesco. A ban is permanent and should be used as last resort.

There definitely has been a large influx of cheaters as of late, and I think most of it has had to do with the last TF2 updates. First of all the free weekend thing, attracted many new players, including cheaters. Secondly, the new medic update has made it great for speedhackers using the ubersaw.

I have seen all of the above, not just on servers that are in my favourites, but on 15 or so different servers. Maybe not all the time, but it is happening more frequently than before.

Ah it seems I misunderstood the OP, I thought he meant people aimbotting with baseball bats or something :p

after admining a tf2 server since release - the amount of cheating that is apparent is very minor - most bans i have had to enforce are normally caused by new exploits from patches - which are then later fixed , i have witnessed 4 or 5 people with blatant speedhacks - so obvious that it seems like they are just seeing how long they can last on a server before being banned.

Of course you are going to get a small % of players that will go under the radar using more subtle hacks, such if life but hopefully the most blatant abusers will get a vac ban,

From 29,000 unique steam id's that have used my tf2 server so far 39 have been vac banned - with probably a further 20 people being banned for exploiting the flavour of the month exploits - i.e teleports outside of the playable area.

Of course any server cant be admined 24/7 and no-one can claim even a "good" server community is cheat free - but honestly seeing people say they quit because of 1 guy using an aimbot - you may as well quit online games now.

I've only been playing TF2 for a short while (got the orange box a couple of months back), but don't think cheating is too rampant in it, although there have been a few times i've thought "odd".

Headshots on scouts/cloaked spies can be completely by accident/lcuk planning, i've had a couple of headshots as a sniper on fast moving scouts when i've been lucky about where they have landed (made a lucky guess), likewise at least once i've managed to hit a cloaked spy because he made the mistake of walking in front of something else (I was a bit annoyed by that as I was aiming at the engineer repairing a turret I was trying to take out:p).

Stupid amount of wallhackers on css atm, steam seem to be neglecting it's users a bit, vac doesn't seem to be working and there have been no updates in css for aaaaaaaaaaages

Anyone else noticed? i went on 4 regular servers just now and there were at least 3 in each one. And no, it wasn't just me sucking. i'm very aware of my skill level and it wasn't even due to me dying a lot. They were getting 10 - 15 kill streaks with baseball bats amidst huge amounts of chaos. Sure they died but nobody aims like that.

I usually play on MPUK/Jolt/Wireplay and have never encountered a hacker (that I know of).

Totally agree. They aren't even hiding it either, the ones I've seen. They're easy to spot too. Completely have no gamesense, or aim, yet can find every player everywhere they go, rounding the corner with their crosshair placed precisely.

Been playing too long to know the difference, and it's shocking when you see a 15 digit steam id, with the traits of the above call everyone a 'n00b' who's beneath him in their score - including people just joined. This is why I don't play css much anymore.

Think that was a bug which has now been fixed.

Yeah that was quite a cool exploit. I was playing in an empty server and checked it out and got banned! Obviously I should have create my own LAN server to try it but I didn't and know i'm banned from a french mario kart server. I haven't and wouldn't ever cheat in a server with anyone else btw. I was just checking it out. Don't know how the mod on the server caught me though - it was meant to be empty!

edit: Forgot to say. I've been searching for a good server I know people recommend Hampshire Heavies but theres just no voice comms going on there. The games are poor when you're not in vocal communication with your team. Anyone recommend a decent server with people who talk?
