TF2 capped at 60fps

vsync is on, prevents tearing I think, never been clued up on it.

Vsync basically keeps the FPS from going above your monitors refresh rate.

Either disable it options, raise you refresh rate, or put up with it, 60 FPS is plenty.

VSYNC should always be on with an LCD otherwise you'll horrible tearing.. CRTs' not so important.. I dunno maybe it helps a little in smoothness.

Puh, 60fps? disadvantage? I used to play league games in TFC with around 20 fps and a ping of 200 and didn't ever worry about someone having a slight edge over me.

What the **** is tearing?

I never vysnc any of my games and they look perfect :s

Yes i have used a 19 inch LCD for 2 years

Nope, never had that in any game.

Does having a high quality monitor reduce tearing or wa?

No, it's all based on refresh rate as I get it with my current Dell. What I have noticed though is it is a lot less noticeable if your current framerate is an exact multiple (give or take a few frames) of your monitor's refresh rate i.e. 60Hz, 120fps or 180fps etc.

Frames per second is basically how fast your monitor displays the frames one after the other. When we use our computers we are actually watching extremely fast slideshows, where the picture changes to the next one many many times a second. 60fps is a slideshow where it shows 60 pictures one after the other in a second, in layman's terms.

The monitor's refresh rate is how fast it can refresh the image the computer is sending it. If the refresh rate is slower than the frames per second, you'll get tearing - basically the slideshow is going too fast, and the monitor is displaying half of one picture and the other half of the picture after it (the refresh on the monitor's sent an image in the middle of the slideshow changing to the next picture). I hope this wasn't too difficult to follow.

All you need to know is that if frames per second is higher than the monitor's refresh rate, you'll get tearing. If you want to get rid of tearing, match the refresh rate with the FPS of the game you're playing on - in this case, 60FPS in TF2 and 60hz refresh rate on the monitor. Some monitors do 75hz so you can do 75fps without tearing, and etcetera.

My refresh rate is 75hz and my FPS is normally 125fps sometimes 250fps and i get no tearing.

You do get tearing. It's a technical limitation of today's technology and impossible to remove without v-syncing. Sometimes it's difficult to see, and some people don't even realize it exists until they're told of it. If you can't see tearing, you're one of the lucky ones and can game well without feeling slightly ill or disoriented and not having to enable vsync on which hurts frames per second in most games.

I personally cant play without vsync turned on. Makes me feel queasy looking at the screen for too long if its tearing all over the shop :(

I have vsync turned off in game yet my FPS is capped at 60. Also what is the point of rendering frames if the display can't draw them?
