TF2 capped at 60fps

I have vsync turned off in game yet my FPS is capped at 60. Also what is the point of rendering frames if the display can't draw them?

It's not the games' problem, nor the developers'. If your PC is tough enough to render more frames than the display can show, it's up to you to either turn on vysnc or get a monitor with a higher refresh rate. 120fps still feels smoother than 60fps with 60hz refresh rate though - you will just see a fair bit of tearing.

Never had Tearing period in any game since 2001 till today on all hardware from then till now.

Always been CRT and always turn V-Sync off (both them).

Seems LCD's get tearing easier.

You think 60FPS Cap is bad, try crappy NFS-Prostreet with latest Patch, it Caps it to 30FPS.

You wont see tearing on a crt as for lcd owners not seeing tearing I really don't believe them they probbaly have it but dont notice it and it can depend on the games too pro evolution soccer has real bad tearing with vsync off.

vsync is a personal preference. Some tearing is more noticeable than others particularly due to the monitor, refresh rate and whether fps jumps up and down a lot.

I don't think there is any particular right or wrong answer to using it or not.

i find tearing much more evident on larger displays, parents hd tvs for example, really bad, then i remembered V-sync, never notice it on my old 19" TFT samsung thats coming up 3years old though.

You guys that can't see it are so lucky. It doesn't make me feel sick with tearing, it just bugs the hell out of me.

To you guys saying that you have never had tearing with V-sync off: you have. It's technically impossible to have a PC that can run games at 150 fps and not get tearing. You're just lucky as hell not to notice it. :)

Already get 100mhz LCD TV's (can make picture look messy same as with 100hz CRT TV's).

I hope to skip LCD monitors altogether, OLED or SED must be back on track soon.

P.S, I have owned LCD, Monitors and TV's just I prefer both my big CRT Monitor and TV..

Many peeps dont relise turning V-Sync OFF in Nvidia drivers is only for OPEN-GL (hover over it and it states this), in older drivers you used the original Coolbits to get AXX to both OPEN-GL and DIRECT-3D.

You can however still turn both OFF in RivaTuner. :)

Whilst it says that, it still works regardless in D3D games in either Windows OS. There was an issue with Vista SP1 that broke forced Vsync in non-supported D3D titles which has since been fixed with the 17x.xx betas. Of course, it's always better to enable vsync from within the game itself, but for older/crappier games that don't have that option, NvCpl works fine :)

No it wasnt.

The fact I put above is also for XP also nothing to do with Vista.

Thats the reason you had to use Coolbits in the old days (to get AXX to DIRECT-3D).

Takes 2secs in RivaTuner and its perm.

LEAKED Nvidia 17X drivers are a joke and not even supposed to be used for most 8000 series, hense modded files and issues.

I have again never had SYNC's ON and never ever will, Tearing is something I have never had in front of me.

High End CRT F.T.W :)

I hardly call the 17x.xx's a joke. I loved the 169.25 Omega drivers, but forced AA was broken. Then I installed SP1, so then forced vsync broke. So then I tried out various 174.xx versions and whilst most of them are rubbish, there ARE some good revisions in there (namely being the 174.16s, funnily the only WHQL certified ones being the official 9600GT release drivers).

Image tearing annoys the hell out of me, and just puts me off playing the game since I like a smooth picture

Never noticed it in front of you. It's impossible for it not to exist.

What are you talking about ?.

I DO NOT get Tearing PERIOD, always used CRT, no SYNC ON and since 2001 till now never got it, only seen on Web in photos (so know what it is).

If my CRT/GPU was showing Tearing I sure as damn would see it.

I have never ever seen so much dupe threads on Tearing until LCD became widly used.

I dont need you or anyone sle to tell me what I can or cant see with my own eyes m8. ;)
