TF2 MvM update (now with co-op mode)

I simply hosted my own server. Only have a 10Mb down/1mb up virgin media line, hosted an MvM server, forwarded the port, was chatting with a friend on skype, and it quickly filled up with 4 randoms joining in. Pings between 40-60 with all except one guy who was in the US, who had a 130 ping. Perfectly playable and we had a blast, no lag or slowdown. Can't Mann Up, but I want to mess around with all the classes and figure out a good loadout/upgrade patch before jumping into that.
Yep, doing the same on my ADSL2 connection, about 1mbit of upload also.
Can't find a server? Host your own one!

All the randoms hopping on and off it didn't seem to have much trouble getting a game (more generally speaking) so it's not too much of an issue. Certainly nothing like the first day when the update landed.

might give that a bash, what port does the dedi server use?

EDIT: 27015

Wont let me connect tho :/
Haev disabled firewall on reouter, tried port forwarding and even DMZ'd the PC.
Fails to connect.
When I change map int he dropdown on the dedi server client it just crashes :(

Can someone please explain to me why the games are populated with teams full of scouts who offer nothing to the game except running around going solo and collecting all the cash?

I've been on servers countless times where I and other players have had to vote off useless Scouts who do nothing to help, and come up with the same bs excuses as to how they are actually 'useful'.

I don't have a problem with anyone being a scout as long as they know what they are doing, but most people actually don't, that's the problem.

I swear people do it just to troll, as I can't understand why this keeps happening lol.

Anyway, /Ends rant.

Connecting to yourself?

Use your local IP.

If anyone finds any servers running the harder difficulty (modified ini's - makes the server the same difficulty as Mann up mode, but free ;) ) let me know - standard difficulty is too easy =/

its discussed all over youtube in various video's explaining the different modes.
Every so often I find a server but after a few wipes they vote to turn it back to normal =/

-edit-
tf_mvm_skill 1-5 (or something smiler according to steam forums)

3 is default, 4 is Mann up mode, 5 is advanced 2.

I swear the cash is equally shared between all players? Even if I don't shoot anything I still end up with $500 + bonus at the end of a round...

Thanks for that info Alpherah, I'll crank mine up to the toughest mode I think. :]

Gave it a go last night, its a good laugh although takes a little while to work out what is going on.

this mann up mode is crap, always puts me with a team of 4 which never works, people leave and never get replaced, i get put on a server with 200 pings. its a joke atm.

If I'm honest, I'm not sold.

It feels just like your playing the last stage of a CP map, but against bots. I was hoping there would be hundreds of lower health bots to mow down, L4D style, but its not, its a few highly powered ones.

Coupled with the utterly retarded matchmaking lobby system, I can't say I'm going to be spending much time on on.

Load outs I found working.

Engineer :
Jag (faster build rate).
Wrangler (put sentry at safe range).
Pomsom (sort of irrelevant).
Canteen - instant rebuild.
Prioritising sentry rate of fire, canteen, sentry ammo, melee speed, sentry health.

Sniper :
- Sydney Sleeper (for suplementing jarate).
- Jarate (perma minicrits).
- Bushwacka (for tank beat up).
Prioritising Jarate recharge, jarate slow down (for sentry busters), Sydney Sleeper recharge, melee speed for tanks.
Sydney Sleeper redundant once jarate is maxed, so sometimes swaps to the bow, with max rate of fire and damage. Explosive headshots also fun but ain't a good enough sniper to get enough out of it.

Heavy :
- Gloves of running urgently.
- Sandvich (for medic support).
- Standard minigun. Natasha sounds interesting but haven't had time to try it.
- Canteen (crits on demand for the big bosses).
Prioritising minigun rate of fire, canteen, minigun ammo, blast resistance, minigun damage Maybe health on kills would be useful but I don't 'tank', more like ambush.

Haven't tried much of the rest. Advanced difficulty is fun.

Engies own everything. It's a tower defense game after all :) No engie, no win.

Can someone explain the crafting system to me please?

I found Haunted Metal Scrap and want to make Horseless Headless Horsemann's Headtaker, but my understanding is I need 3 Refined Metal.

3x Refined Metal = 3 Reclaimed Metal
3x Reclaimed Metal = 9 Scrap metal
9x Scrap metal = 18 Class Weapons.

18?! Is that right?! And to top it off, you cant just buy 18 weapons from the store to craft?

No, it's not.

18 weapons is 9 scrap, 9 scrap is 3 reclaimed, and 3 reclaimed is 1 refined.

So you need more weapons than 18.

Had a go at this over the weekend and actually had a laugh on it.

Was doing some solo which was a bit boring, but after getting 5 of my friends playing we had a proper laugh and were doing quite well.

Quite like the game modes, starting on the harder ones soon so will get tougher.

No, it's not.

18 weapons is 9 scrap, 9 scrap is 3 reclaimed, and 3 reclaimed is 1 refined.

So you need more weapons than 18.

So it's impossible then to craft the item, if it requires 36 class weapons to do so. 36 is an absolutely ridiculous number even if you're buying them.

Not really, loads of standard weapons get dropped. I've barely played TF2 since all the drops, yet the other night crafted 9 scrap metal just from the duplicate standard weapons I had in my backpack.

Played on a map called mvm_coaltown_advanced last night, which seemed to be coaltown on uber hard. We didn't win, lol.
