Brought the orange box, and Iam trying to play TF2. Loads up past the valve logo, then stutters abit. Start a game then my pc will crash and monitor will enter power save mode.

Anyone know why Iam having this problem? Iam running x64 vista, originally thought it might be because off dreamscence running that, but ive disabled it and still having the same problem.

Cheers Pea0n, tried setting it at -dxlevel 90. Launched the game no stuttering, found a server started to play for about a min then it crashed and monitor went off. Had to switch off the pc on both times as the reset didnt work.

what power supply are you using?

I know that when i play this my system gets pretty hot, and asuming that it uses a fair bit of power. That its not feeding enough energy to the parts and therefore crashes it?

Corsair 520W. I have noticed that when the pc crashes the pc's fan are quite loud.

Have you looked in your event viewer to see if there are any related error messages? They can help you diagnose software issues.

Could be temperature related. Run a graphics program and Everest in the background to log your hardware variables like temps, cpu utilisation etc. A good graphics program for this would be RTHDRIBLE. (Google it for a free download).

Does this only happen with games or when your system is under load generally? Try running Prime95 or Orthos to stress test your rig with Everest monitoring in the background again.

Memtest is a good program for testing RAM if you think that could be where the problem lies.

Chipset/Graphics/Sound drivers should all be updated to latest versions as well as DirectX.

Good luck.

Not check event viewer, as they have changed it from the old XP one. I didnt really know what to look for in there?

Will try those other points raised, thanks for the advice.

Not quite sure how to run Everest monitoring in the background, take it this isnt right?

Also does RTHDRIBLE work ok with vista, as its not listed on there site off OS.

That was with msn wmp and FF running. Just opened prime and now my pc is really slow. CPU is at 100% and RAM 1.89 GB in task manager.

Arrrrgg

go to north bridge settings maybe

i don't really know how your bios works, it will be different to mine!

hhmmmm, having trouble finding anything to do with timings any idea what sub-heading it might be in?

Tried this,

A very obscure thing about this motherboard is that to adjust memory timings you need to press Control F1 at the setup main menu. Only after doing this memory timings options will be available on the same screen shown on Figure 5.

Still no joy.
