Firstly there is a reason i have not put this in Monitors section, all the threads there are specific and i'm just after some general info on TFT's

Looking to buy a cheapish 19" tft and was wondering about the Hanns-G widescreen on special this week.

1. When i have seen widescreen tft's in store i have thought they look small, what do you guys think? Is a 4:3 aspect better or the widescreen.

2. Will i have to have games that support widescreen format or will XP sort them all out to fit the screen perfectly?

3. Is this spec any good?
Product Description Videoseven V7 L19WA - flat panel display - TFT - 19"
Device Type Flat panel display / TFT active matrix
Colour Black, silver
Dimensions (WxDxH) 46.9 cm x 19 cm x 36.9 cm
Diagonal Size 19" - widescreen
Dot Pitch / Pixel Pitch 0.285 mm
Max Resolution 1440 x 900 / 60 Hz
Colour support Up to 16.2 million colors
Response Time 8 ms
Image Brightness 300 cd/m2
Image Contrast Ratio 500:1
Audio Output Speaker(s) - stereo - integrated
Interface VGA (HD-15)

That is the alternative widescreen.

4. What should i be looking for i.e brightness, viewing angle, image quality? All the important factors when buying a TFT basically.

Thanks to anyone who can help,

Foehammer :D

depends what you're used to i suppose. Personally I find anything under 24" small now, but that's only because I'm used to that size screen now. When I first got it i thought it was massive. I'm sure i'd feel the same way if i got something bigger like a 30" screen. I think WS is a nice thing to have in modern times really as it comes into its own for multitasking with the screen split down the middle, and also in movies. Modern games pretty much all support WS as well and so again a WS monitor becomes very enjoyable for this purpose

you'll need games which support it, or hacks for games which don't, or alternatively the ability to play them at their native aspect ratio. this article should help you :)

be wary of relying wholely on printed specs. As it happens, that Videoseven uses the same panel as many of the 19"WS models including popular ones like the Acer AL1916W and Viewsonic VA1912W.

i'd recommend having a read here about specs and looking at the buyers FAQ as well, should cover everything you need to know :)

Wow excellent response, thankyou! :D

K, so going to go WS now i think, and its simply down to the Hanns-g or the videoseven. Even 19" will be a big improvement to me! lol, currently using a 17" CRT.... yes CRT
