An experimental HIV vaccine has cut the risk of infection by nearly a third in a major trial, researchers say.

The vaccine - a combination of two earlier experimental vaccines - was given to 16,000 people in a joint trial by the Thai government and US military.

It reduced by 31% the volunteers' risk of contracting HIV, the virus that leads to Aids.

Good to see Thailand making progress towards solving one of it's biggest problems.

there are more important things than solving a problem brought on by people who know the risks (at least in the modern world) but don't make any attempt to prevent the spread

My post wasn't about the 'modern world' (assuming you are refering to the occident by that)...

In Thailand (which was what my OP was about), most girls have very little knowledge of STD's, so your bandwagon comment is not relevent to this particular topic.

NEWSFLASH - THERE IS NO TRILLION £$

This thread isn't "if you had a trillion dollars how would you spend it?".

Congratulations everyone on completely disregarding the topic.

HIV is a totaly preventable virus it doesn't need a vaccine, if you sleep about and use no protection there is a change that you are going to get it. I feel sorry for no adult that catchs it and I don't believe that it should be treated. If it can't be cures then it should not be treated, the quicker they die of the better.

Utter horse****. Anyone can contract it. Tell me you don't go to a nightclub hoping to get laid with someone you don't know.

And here's the thing - condoms are NOT 100% effective against preventing the contraction of STD's.

Some of you people clearly have very little experience of sex related matters.

Why didn't you insult him like you did me?
Because he's just hopped on the bandwagon. You're driving it.

And I never said using condoms was a bad thing. But they are not 100%. If one of your loved ones contracts the disease through no fault of their own, I can guarantee you will do a complete U-turn with regards to your attitude to the disease. But until then, enjoy that comfy sadle up there on your high horse.

Thats the very thing, people go clubing pull the local bike and have no idea about sexual heath. As for condoms if you are with the local bike or some girl you don't know, then take it easy and don't rip the thing. Better still don't jump on every bike you see.

You know the 'local bikes' in every bar/nightclub in the world, do you? And thanks for the condom advice. I knew I was going wrong somewhere...

OK thats fine, now can we have some corroboration please? I pretty sure you wouldn't want us to just take the word of just one person now would you?

;)

Why are you asking for a source anyway? Do you really find it difficult to believe that many Thai women (many of whom have little, if any, official form of education) do not understand the risks?

(or rather, do not understand the scale of the problem and associated dangers).

Judging from the emotional tirade, personal insults and general lack of common sense in your posts, I'm guessing:

a.) You're just very simple
b.) You know someone with HIV/AIDS

Either way, can't expect a useful contribution from you can we?

Do you disagree with anything in particular with the post you quoted, or was that a blatant attempt at trolling?
