Thank you Duke

I guess it's time to say that any unnecessary bickering/trolling/whatever you want to call it won't go unnoticed and we'll drop the hammertime this year ;)

Surely it would be boring if everybody who posted were in complete agreement with eachother?

What makes threads interesting is when there is disagreement. This propagates debate and discussion.

Why ban someone from posting, if their posts make the thread more fun?

They are talking about trolling/baiting, not disagreeing with someone.

sunama, you have to admit that it sometimes gets out of hand, especially with a select group of people. ;)

I enjoy the varying viewpoints and discussion but it almost instantly degrades into a **** slinging match.

Agreed, the same people bring it down every time and a lot of people are sick of it.

Disagree with each other - that's fine. Deliberately winding each other up and being rude - isn't.

Hopefully the crackdown is applied fairly across all members then, as some seem to get more leeway than others in here, things like lolaknor to any of his posts just cause he supported MS was clearly trolling and baiting but never seemed to be tackled.

Will it also cover comments such as referring to Vettel as the dirty German, or Alonso as waaaalonso etc etc? As they clearly bait the fans of those drivers and just seem to be made to antagonise others.

p.s Well done Duke :)

People started posting 'lolarknor' because he constantly posted flamebait, not because he's a Schumacher fan. Case in point - post #53 in this very thread. What possible response can there be to that other than 'lolarknor'? :p

***edit***

Though since he now appears to have gotten himself banned, you won't have to worry about that any more....

p.s Well done Duke :)

This I do agree with of course. Well done Duke, MoH status is richly deserved

Cheers & agree about the names. I find them a bit silly but generally understood who they were talking about, so just ignored it.

For nicknames, I suspect things that aren't seen as negative won't be an issue. Stuff like MS is fine obviously, as I suspect referring to Kimi as 'Iceman' is, Prost as Prof, would be fine as well.

Things like waaaalonso, which add nothing to an argument, and are likely to 'bait' fans of Alonso are, I suspect, less likely to be viewed positively.

Do we need an OcUK approved list of nicknames? Could be difficult.

Loldonado seems to be fine because he seems universally unpopular, while Waalonso is not because there are some Alonso fans about. Teflonso is fine though, because it came from Brundle. Fat John seems to be the universal term for Grosjean on here, as does The Messiah for Hamilton. Not a weekend goes by without a Jenson Balance comment. And then there's Vimto...

People could just take Duke's advice and dismiss them as nothing more than silly nicknames and move on. They are hardly worth trying to make a big thing about.

I have every confidence that the mods on here are clever enough to be able to tell the difference between discussions and banter, and people who set out solely to cause arguments. We should just let them get on with it. We don't need to start writing specific rules to ban certain words because someone decided to take offence.

Sounds fair enough, there are off course decent nicknames which even the drivers refer to, its just the stuff like waaalonso, teflonso, Dirty German, Spanish racist pig etc which are used in a very negative way and can lead to reactions and are used purely to antagonise.

Drop the nicknames unless they are the well known ones like the ones KD said in his post.

While we are on the subject I'm getting fed up with people complaing about 'Lotus'. It's old and boring now tbh. No matter how much you complain they aren't going to change the name. Move on please.
