It's relatively simple. Don't go with anything that might bait someone else, or that you wouldn't hear a well respected commentator using.

So don't say anything even mildly negative about anyone? As thats all it seems to take sometimes.
We have seen threads explode for such small things like simple misunderstandings or casual comments like "It needs X driver to have some bad luck to keep it interesting". The problem is not what's said, its people using any and every opportunity they can to create a massive argument for the sake of it.
Do you honestly think any F1 fan should get so upset about hearing Alonso called Teflonso that they think anyone who ever says it should be banned? Of course not. But its up to all involved to keep things civil. There isn't a (big) problem with baiting, theres a problem with people constantly biting. I know, I used to be one, as did JRS. Things used to wind me up silly until I ended up in a 4 page argument over which lap a driver pitted on!

, sorry, had to get an F1 analogy in there somewhere ). If people just sit back and let the casual banter slider past as just that, and not as a highly offensive insult, theres actually a really good diverse mix of knowledge and fans in this forum.

Couldn't agree more.
I've had some heated debates with people in here before and even had my opinion changed because of them.
It would be a real shame to lose any more of the regulars like Sparky and arknor, even if you disagree with them / their posting style.

Yep. There have been some great discussions on here. Its just more and more get ruined by someone popping in and deciding to take offence to something. The fanboy/hater labelling and binary argument thing also scuppers debate.
