At £309 you want a X1900XT without a shadow of a doubt.

Either get the 3800+ or the 4400+ CPU (latter is 1meg cache).

Oh and if you get the X1900XT then change the mobo to a non-SLI Asus or a Crossfire Asus.

hehe well your choice but honestly you should have gone ATI...
Should play well enough just shame you didn't get the best value for money :).
Reason we say 3800+ or 4400+ is that the former clocks well and isn't much slower than a 4200+ ( My 3800+ is rock solid at 2.2ghz - default is 2ghz ) and the 4400+ is 1meg cache ( so not a million miles from an opty in performance and clocking capabilitys)

oh well lets see what happens when i clock the 4200 then ;) , it didnt cost much more than the 3800 anyways.

Probably get around the same clock out of it that a 3800+ is capable of, maybe slightly more ( 3800's seem to be averageing around 2.5-2.6 so I'd expect in your situation 2.6 to be doable on air ) - the one bonus you do have of course is the RAM clocks slower on the same CPU speed as the divider will be 11 not 10.

It will be a good system, like mentioned possibly not the best value for money with a couple of the parts but if it is any consolation there have been a few people complaining about Crossfire motherboards and the Nforce4 is an older and more stable chipset at the moment.

Basically if you don't change RAM settings and use 3200 RAM your instantly overclocking the RAM when you raise the FSB. In a 10xmulti system when you hit 2.6 gig you'd have to run the FSB at about 260... on an 11xmulti 237.

Thus your more likely to get your RAM to run at your FSB speed on an 11xmulti than a 10x.

These days there's a lot of settings for overclocking and you can slow the RAM down, it's just nice if you can run it at the FSB speed.

I agree with the above posters. The CPU isn't the best choice, nor is the graphics card. 256MB GTX vs 512MB ATi X1900XT is no contest and they cost the same. The X1900XT beats the 512MB GTX, let alone a bog standard one. Even if paid for and in the post, you have the right to cancel the contract within 7 days of receipt. I personally strongly urge you to do so, as you can get so much more for your money. Even an opteron 165 will cost about the same as that CPU but has the 1MB cache and clocks much better. The PSU is ok, but I would get a stronger one for clocking.

I don't want to p on your parade to use a cliche but you can do a lot better for your money and I don't want to see people making mistakes unnecessarily.

Well as i didnt want an ATI card, i think i have done ok, so maybe i could have saved £100/200 by getting the 3200+, a different mobo &maybe a different gfx card, but i think what i have will run the games i want on top settings. (or am i wrong! !)

It will run top settings for now but you could have a 512MB ATi card which is the most powerful card out at the moment for the same price... no brainer in my eyes.

I honestly believe you should reconsider. Not only that but the G71 (7900) is out in about a month (when you get back) meaning your current card will fall heavily in value and be replaced with a new card which will cost you the same amount as you are paying for ths current card.

Can't send PM's on this forum. What you need to do is use the Contact Us on the shop website. If it is dispatched, you will need to apply for an RMA as 'unwanted'. Once RMA is in, you'll need to post the item back within 2 weeks.

You'll play all games at highest, definitely.

It's not too late though, remember, so long as you don't open the box, you have 7 days to return the item as unwanted. All you need is an RMA and they cannot refuse.
