The 2014-15 Betting Thread *Spoilers*

Way too early to tell so far, they could just have a busy few days and come out with a squad as good as last year, plus, Newcastle are Newcastle, I wouldn't have any faith in them.

Might consider a punt (e/w?) on Rooney TGS @ 25/1. Given the recent ins-and-outs at OT (two strikers leaving and two centre mids coming in) you'd have to imagine he'll be playing as a striker or at least #10 rather than back in midfield and should be back on pens with RvP moving on. Aguero likely to be unfit for start of season too I'd imagine although obviously remains favourite.

So halfway through, how is everyone's Open pick doing?

Mine(same player I always do) is currently -7. Bit disappointing though tbh as he had plenty of chances to shoot lower.

Not gonna say who exactly as I don;t want to jinx it:p

Newcastle are 3.1 to beat Saints at home in opening game of the season. Better than 2/1 looks decent value to me considering Saints have lost Clyne, Toby and Morgan since last season, plus Forster and Bertrand are injured which basically means the keeper, 3/4 of the defence and the holding midfielder from their best XI last season are all missing. Newcastle on the other hand have more or less a full squad with de Jong back to fitness and new signing coming in. Also I would rate McClaren over Carver.

Then again still time for Saints to move in the transfer market and they coped well with lost players last season.

Wouldn't the Southampton reserve team still beat Newcastle though? :p

Gonna take a bit for mine to win the open, not out of it by a long shot, but also going to need to do very well today!

Needs to basically do the opposite that Lowrie did yesterday!

Oh absolutely. I usually do £10-20 stakes religiously, then when I win, I withdraw pretty much all of it, then use the rest as a higher stake. That is what I have done the last few days. It all started from a £10 bet on Yaya Toure to score first last week. From that I was able to stake £50 on my next acca, then when that came in for £550, withdraw 450 and play with the winnings.

Now I'm gonna leave the £180 in there feom this winnings, and play with that, then when that runs out I'll go back to tenners. I'm good at sticking to it!

PS. FC Infonet were something like 1/12 to win their game. I did both teams no, as all of these games are always one-sided the game ended 0-0!

Good tactics! I've been betting on horses this month and I turned £40 into about £1,000, £900 of which is in my bank and the rest I am in the process of losing :p

Cashed out for 2k.

I had Zach Johnson at 100/1. £50 e/w

And he has just dropped a shot. He's not out of it, but in a few holes he's gone from joint lead to 2 behind and he's on the last hole.

Finished on 15 under. Might be good enough for a playoff tbh...

Edit- he's only gonna bloody win it is he!

...But another £50 acca was only one goal out, with Brondby drawing 0-0 for £1100!

Wouldn't the Southampton reserve team still beat Newcastle though? :p

I'm unconvinced. They've got a moderately difficult away European match late on the Thursday followed by the early kick-off on the Sunday in Newcastle which is another long trip. They have only two fit centre-halves so the reserves would basically be youth players.

I'm not suggesting Newcastle are a banker by any stretch but better than 2/1 (or 5/4 DNB) represents value IMO. Bear in mind despite seemingly having a good season last year, Saints lost over half their away matches in the league and averaged less than a goal a game.
