THE 50K CHALLENGE: NEW MUSTANG ON THE WAY, BUT WOULD 50K BE BETTER SPENT ON ANOTHER MARQUE?

A45 AMG?

Personally my plan is to buy similar in 4-5 years, as it is today I am split between the TT RS and the M2, will be buying one of them.
I love the more understated looks of the TT (compare to base model) M2 has better practicality
A45 AMG also a contender I guess, I do like the rarity, its a different combination to the other 2.

Terrible decision to have to make Gibbo, but from how you have tended the the current stang, I would say you probably have another stang in you yet ;)

I love my A45, but just don't see this is being a Gibbo type of car.

Agreed on the C63 too - took it on track, as well as through low friction surfaces - and although it was fun, it left me feeling a little bit numb afterwards.

Supercharged VXR8.

They're good fun but big, heavy cars - which curbs your enthusiasm at a vast rate of knots in a lot of cases. Steering and suspension isn't that rewarding out of the box, either, and they're not particularly loud or brutal as standard (the latter being primarily due to the kerb weight).

This is what my long-term test car did to its front tyres after about 15 fast laps of Combe. :D

Needed some camber tweaks and to lose about 200kg...

Nice.... lol

I had the Older Bathurst S edition for a weekend and that was great fun but I like big cars so it suited me.

Agree they are big and heavy but lots of potential if that’s how you want to go. He has his M3 for track fun so a nice comfy V8 for everything else.....

Or something like that....

e60 M5 because V10 (but little else) -stick it in the garage and wait for it to appreciate and an early f10 M5..

You could do both for £50k admittedly warranty would be lacking....

Oh and a Sinclair C5 to scratch the electric itch. :p :D

I've set myself a similar 50k challenge, albeit with slightly more stringent guidelines and the inclusion of 4wd - it needs to be a daily driver and I live in Scotland. It's snowing outside as I type.

It needs to be new, or almost new (up to a year old) with a manufacturer's warranty. This is quite hard for 50k and most of the cars mentioned in this thread are either old or way over 50k.

I ruled out 911s - you can't get a decent C4s for that. So I initially narrowed it down to:

  • RS3 Saloon - Fun, but at 50k its very expensive for what is still an A3 in many ways
  • E43 - Not a real AMG, but I think it'll be a bit better built than a C43 and a pre reg can be had under 50k. Probably not a huge amount of fun though
  • F-Type V6 S - Around budget at a year old and, I believe, the V6S has 4wd
If I drop the 4wd option and look to invest in a set of winter wheels and tyres (and the hassle of changing them over every year) then I came to:
  • C63S - perhaps even a coupe as it looks meaner
  • F10 M5 - not sure it can put all it's power down properly.
So at the moment my head is saying F-Type but my heart is saying V8 C63S. Not sure what I will do.

IF i had that kind of money for a car I'd probably keep my every day mk5 gti and spend £5k on tweaking it.

Drop £5k on a KTM 390 Duke for the days a bike would be useful and then blow the rest on something like Ariel Atom with a TTS supercharger upgrade or on building my own sleeper. Morris minor running a modified 370z engine, something really silly.

I can't say I can input a lot though on cars in that price range, I don't spend a lot of time looking at them all because they are out of my budget but the only car I really like that's silly money is the GTR but I think new it's out of your price range.

Some nice suggestions here threre.

Just remember I think the Golf R, Audi S3, RS3 and TT RS all use a FWD biased Haldex system which means its FWD until otherwise. Also I think the Audi S5 is within budget, those are around 350HP and have a more permanent 4WD setup which could suit snow better but could be wrong. However the RS3 and TT RS do sound absolutely amazing and are super proper fast out the box, they are as quick as the first R8 V10's were to 100mph, something like 3.5s to 60 and 8s to 100, really fast cars which sound ace and drive very good on the road.

Problem with the Audi's are they special enough, I will admit I do like the new TT RS, improved handling, amazing interior and digital dash and they look good but sound incredible, that 5 pot sounds epic.

Yeah - first time I was behind the wheel of an M4 was the Palmerspot ones and I found them boring too... you might remember how much I enjoyed the E92 M3s haha.

Then you were driving them far too slowly. I say that being half a second (ok .48 of a second) quicker than anyone else (40 odd people) the day I drove one :D Smash it across the curbs and batter it everywhere and its epic I assure you. Drive it slow then it's a road car, being driven like a road car, on a race track.
