THE 50K CHALLENGE: NEW MUSTANG ON THE WAY, BUT WOULD 50K BE BETTER SPENT ON ANOTHER MARQUE?

It's weird to me how a petrol head such as Gibbo, who has driven many great cars in this part of the market, needs to start a thread to ask for suggestions? Surely he should be the one giving suggestions to others?

Reading between the lines I think it's more of a point to to prove and to then stop people saying omg look what you could have bought etc etc.

Just my thoughts on the matter!

I’ll still continue to think that as im sure others will....

50k on the same car again madness.

How much money have you rinsed on mustangs now Andy :D

A vast amount I'd say, well over £100,000, but hey if we add stuff up it gets scary, how much money have I rinsed on holidays probably also a scary big number we all have our weakness and for me I do love a bit of American muscle. Plus no matter how much people may not get it, you put a Mustang in orange or a Dodge Hellcat in a car park and they simply are pretty much the best looking car in said car park, even the fast European stuff just looks like most the other stuff on the road and I guess a lot of that is because an M car is not a ground up car, an AMG is the same as are the Audi RS variants, though they are totally epic, they fall under the radar of being cool. Unless you go to exotic stuff, R8, F-Type, Ferrari etc. and it when you see these and then when a Mustang, Camaro, Challenger is next to them they never look out of place and get just as much attention. Maybe in another 5yr or 10yr as more US stuff enters Europe this won't be the case, but right now a Mustang on the road is a lovely sight and gets most petrol heads excited and the none petrol heads also get it.

I am going to re-visit the F-Types, simply as one of the guys wifes here can get big discounts on new and used Jaguars so an AWD version might be possible. As much of a laugh a RWD F-Type would be I'd imagine a few weeks into ownership not being able to use full throttle could get rather annoying.

I want something loud that looks awesome, goes like a stink and is reliable. That is why the Mustang does so well, there is really not much else in the 40-60k bracket, yes a TT RS I'd argue sounds as good, goes faster but there is a BUT I cannot put my finger on, lets just say it does not have the road presence or make you feel like a Mustang or something like an F-Type does. :)

R8 I'd want would have to be S-tronic V10, the V8 are slow and the older ones are pretty crap inside and they seem to drive a bit loose and to be frank all the issues Housey has had with a near new one really put me off, considering I will be using daily all weather, driving it hard it needs to be reliable and not a fragile garage queen.

I see a lot of yank muscle so I guess I am semi immune to it. I live near 2 US air bases and a lot of yanks live near me, so there are probably 30-50 yank muscle cars near me, but even so I agree they do carry a presence, could just be down to the sheer size ;)

For me thats the reason my next car will probably be an RS TT, I like the fact its quite understated for the performance. When I compare the other serious contender for me, the M2 its very aggressive looking but its clearly designed to stand out.

I think your going to struggle to find a real competitor to the stang without looking at other american muscle, its just a different way of doing it and if you like that thing everything else is going to seem underwhelming.

Very true!

Hellcat is my favourite car looks wise, but its just far too compromised in handling and size to make a good daily driver, which is a shame as they are within budget, but then worse of all I remember they are LHD, had LHD before, coped fine but it is still a royal pain in backside. :D

yea but you cant talk to the guy it's a waste of time.
a Mustang is nothing that special, the 2018 Camaro ZL1 spanks it in almost every review you read, it's a miles better car, even the cheaper 2017 Camaro SS is better too....... but it's LHD only.

So the conclusion of this thread is simply that there isn't anything that competes directly with the Mustang's muscle car niche in the UK and ticks the same boxes @Gibbo ?

If you can live with the ~£50k purchase cost then crack on.

Hard, but the more I talk about F-Type, well now I am looking at F-Types as a serious alternative, has to be V8 and ideally needs to be AWD version.

LOL.

For how many years have you being saying your buying a car? Think I've had a few cars whilst you've being deciding to have one. You really talk crap and have no place in this thread apart to spout more crap, but go on, myself and others do love a good laugh. :)

Autotrader > up to £55k > 2014 or newer > 0-60 under 5sec

**** loads of awesome cars, better than a mustang.

Only being on PH so far, will be having a play over coming weeks seeing what options are out there, there is always something faster and if it was just about and only about performance stats I'd probably end up keeping the Golf or getting a GTR.

Yea, but driving the Camaro is like being inside a pillbox and thoroughly annoying/uncomfortable as a a result.

YES, it's the almost dangerous lack of visability, esp with LHD that's the issue here, because turning right at a junction in the New Forest will be a nightmare
