You can't use AA and HDR at the same time, the game doesn't support it! Once you've seen the game with HDR, there is no competition and I'm usually an AA freak :)

what he said. turning hdr off makes it look 2D once youve played with hdr for a while

Great pics mate! But you really should enable anti aliasing.

What do you mean theres at least 4x there, did you click the pic to enlarge?

unless he's used FRAPS or some other way of taking screenshots, you can't take screenies in Oblivion with Anti Aliasing turned on :)

the game does, however do a very good job of using high quality images even on low resolutions and there are very minimal jaggid lines (when you compare it to other games without AA).

I did as it happens :)

No or even low AA usually bugs the crap out of me but I can take it in Oblivion because it's only really noticable in towns and cities and even then looks better than most games with AA enabled!

I almost regret buying a decent card so that I could have AA & AF as I now really miss not having it and consequently look to upgrade!

Even though I played a fair few games for many many years I always had pretty low end cards so I could never use it! :D

My spec below and I'm playing Oblivion on default settings (Rez 1680x1050 though!). Worth bumping it up? just i prefer is to be smooth!!

ah fair enough :)
and yeah same here, i like to ramp up my AA can't stand looking at things in games with jaggid lines everywhere... dont see the point in having "ultra real" graphics if people are going to be square

i suppose i could buy a better (read: bigger) monitor and use a higher resolution so i wouldn't need to use AA... but AA is free, a new monitor isn't :p

It looks good already but you've got a huge spec there so I'd try bumping it up just to see. If it's not smooth you can always lower the details a little :)

very simlar system to me...
4000+ @ 2.6GHz
DFI Lan Party
Point Of View 7800GT @ 490/1180
G.Skill 2GB ZX (DDR400) @ 217mhz
74GB Raptor (Oblivion and Windows installed on this)
120GB Seagate Barracuda
580w Hiper Type-R PSU
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS 5.1 (with Logitech X-530 speakers)

i play it at 1024*768 with MOST settings maxed, don't have grass shadows turned on, or self shadows turned on for that matter.

i've used the tweak guide (found here) to pretty much make it as performance friendly as possible whilst still getting a great visual feel... i didn't use every tweak in the guide, but did use a few and they've helped. the memory tweaks section (optimising for 2GB) has helped a fair wad IMO.

Thanks I'll take a look! :)
