After experiencing a QN900D which supports 8K 60hz, and seeing the ludicrous level of sharpness from a 65" TV, I'm now all in on the 8K rabbit hole.

The only other TV I've seen at that size or larger is the LG OLED77Z39LA 77 inch OLED Evo 8K (I don't know if this supports 120hz but if it does I'd buy one) I'd rather not have to buy one and then find out.

Why aren't there any monitors/tv's I can see even on the horizon for sale in this 8K arena, ideally I'd take 8K 120hz if I had an option, but I don't want to be buying 8-5 year old tech just for the resolution and still to be stuck at 60hz.

I may have to consider a QN900B/C as the 240hz isn't needed for gaming in my use case. I'd rather have 8K 120hz for gaming (single player games) and just stick with my 360hz 1440p for any other type of games, but looks like 60hz is the limit at the moment.

I should also clarify I have already tried the G95NC as well but the matte screen isn't for me, otherwise I would have happily stuck with it as it was great for gaming but not for me in desktop usage and it supports 240hz... and that's 7860x2160 instead of 8K which is 7860x4320



Looks like China is the only place to get access to what I want, but it's a pain navigating their storefronts, there must be an easier way I'm unaware of to get access to some China only products? or at least be able to find them if nothing else.

I get it's super niche for now, but we're on the cusp of a 5090 and what better way to push and justify such a purchase then going a step up in resolution as well.

If anyone else is having similar thoughts for the near future, I'd like to know what you've settled on for now, or what you're waiting for in the near future.

the alternative is to upscale to 8K or something close with DSR I believe? if you have the ability to turn DSC off on a compatible display anyway, or so I've read.

To be fair, even the latest and greatest hardware will rarely, if ever, break 60 frames per second, on recent titles, at 8k, so 120 hertz monitors would kinda be wasted at the minute, or even in the near future, imo. The hardware needs to catch up in a big way first to take advantage of 8k/120. It's not just a step up in pixels compared to 4k, it's 4 times the amount. Bear in mind even the 4090 can only squeeze 120 frames (or less) out of some recent titles running at 4k and that's with DLSS enabled. 8k is just too much at the minute and will be for a while yet, we just ain't got the powah to shift all them pixels smoothly.

I was watching a YouTube video the other day with a 4090 based system running Hell blade 2 maxed out at 8k and it was only managing on average 15 fps... So yeah I reckon we're a way off 8k/120 for gaming... Maybe it'll be a more realistic option around the time of the 7090 or 8090 release... :D

For me personally, I'm settled on a LG C2 42 inch 4k/120 for my single player gaming, on a 4090 based system. For multiplayer I use a 27 inch 240 hertz monitor but I'm still crap, just not as crap as when using the LG for mp.

Yes you're both right, but it'd still be nice just for the desktop experience even leaving out the gaming capabilities, even if you had to wait a couple more years for that side of things to catch up. Looks like my options are limited until 2025 at least, came across a video about an ink jet printed tcl oled 65" panel that will do 8K 120hz.

Guess I can just start saving and waiting for once.

Maybe we will start to see some higher HZ gaming ones start to come out in a few years time.
But don't think i could ever go back to an IPS screen and not sure if they can even make a small 8K 32" OLED panel

Yeah there's no way I'd pay that sort of money for a monitor that came out 6 years ago, better off getting one of the recent QLED/OLED options for the same or double the price and size, as it can double up as a TV.

Got to wait for the GPU's to support 8K 120hz HDMI 2.1 I believe, or for the high end 8K TV's to incorporate DP 2.1 one or the other at the moment it looks like.

For now the G95NC is the only display pumping out a crazy resolution at 240hz via DP 2.1, just a shame about the matte display as I primarily want it for desktop usage and the matte coating ruins it for me (there are ways to fix this manually, but I don't want to take the risk)

I don't think even Dell themselves would've expected such a lack of 8K adoption going into 2024/2025.

Samsung and LG have both attempted and given up for the most part with it as well, and focusing more on upscaling tech given the lack of native 8K content.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised there's such limited options, so for now I've gone back to my S90C again, to get the TV/Desktop experience I'm after, but 8K was another level of sharpness :D but not for the price difference on offer.

To justify such a price discrepancy 8K 120/144hz really needs to be on offer in tandem with 4K 240hz.

I remember back about 17 years ago in 2007/2008 when i bought my 1080p pioneer plasma TV and on AVforums at the time people were advising not to buy one as micro-Led TV's were coming out very soon :cry:

Looks like the G95NC is the best choice at the moment then from all available options, shame they had to butcher the display. A glossy/semi glossy display on that thing would have me satisfied, hope they consider an OLED display at that size in the future. That or some 8K monitors drop with DP2.1 in the near future.

Either way interesting to get more information from you and others!
 
Wow, talk about future proofing! Considering most people are still playing at 1080 to 1440p, I can't even imagine how long it's going to be before devs start developing for 8k routinely

I wasn't expecting the dramatic resolution uplift I experienced at 65"

I even saw the latest digitalfoundry video where they say they don't even notice the uplift much in 8K as they are not so close to the display I gather.

So I guess everyone is different, for me being so close to the 65" the 8K increase makes a huge difference, but 60hz ain't it even for general desktop usage, once you're used to the higher frame rates.
