The Absolute Must-Have App Thread!

Giving Hazel a go now too.

EDIT: When it moves the music it'd be nice if it could add stuff to the iTunes library too. Not sure I'm really going to use it.

Found 'Growl' while downloading Hazel too, anyone use it?

Create a rule as below;

Obviously modify it to your purpose slightly.

Then add the folder you send the music to to a new watch list and create a new rule, as below;

That then imports the folder into iTunes, and once that is done, it should wipe the blue tag to stop it continually adding the file.

But, now you have the problem of all folders in the downloads folder going to your music, yes? :)

Boom! Send archives, which will contain folders to the misc folder which got creatively renamed during the making of this. This, will of course catch the occasional archived music selection and send it to the wrong place, but it's the best solution I could think of. :)

could someone explain to me what Last.fm is all about, i've been looking around the site and its not quite clear... when you listen to tracks on itunes or whatever, they get "scrobbled" which means the track you are listening to and stats like which albums you listed to the most are added to the online Last.fm database...

i've noticed that coversutra has an option to add your last.fm sign in details but you also have to download a last.fm application? what does this do?

You don't need the Last.fm app..

They put a stupid thing on the Last.fm website that meant you couldn't use your account until you installed the app once.

When I originally set mine up, I registered on the site, put my details in to coversutra, and then went and downloaded the app direct in to the trash ;)

CoverSutra logs your tracks even if you don't activate using the app, you just can't see your habits on the Last.fm site.. get me?

right, so you dont need the app (i had a feeling that was the case), but whats the point of the service then? so a website can log what files you listen to? i've got a feeling theres something quite mint i'm missing but right now i'm like... whats the point?

could you shed some light? cuz there site is crap for that :(

it recommends you music based on what you listen to, compiles weekly and all-time charts, that sort of thing. tis very good

aaahhh i see, so its simply something to broaden your horizens based on what you currently listen to...

it seems using the app itself that you can listen to any band you want to without paying?? so is that the only purpose of running the actual app, or are you saying you may as well just use the site directly?

Use the site.

You can search and play each artist on the site, no need for the app :)

Obviously, if you listen to allllll death-metal then it might struggle to suggest alternatives.

I suggest that mine struggles to find things not already in my library... :/

Didn't even get any Hip hop this week after my Jay-z and Lupe run last week.

i get it now... pretty neat idea really aint it :)

so i'll just play my music as always, then go to the site in a week and it'll suggest me stuff :) - like it :)
