The Ada Lovelace RTX 4090 Owners Thread

Well found out it wasn't the vertical mount bracket and gen 4 riser, It was the CableMod direct PSU 12VHPWR cable that was the issue, Both the screen would go black and fans would spin up 100% if any load was put on the GPU, Noticed others commenting on roughly the same situation when the 3090Ti came out on random reddit threads all of whom also bought custom CableMod cables so thought I'd try to switch back, Put the stock Nvidia octopus cable back on and it's again 100% rock solid stable, Ugly but stable.

Now the tedious task of RMA'ing a faulty £50 cable back to China....

Also noticed something quite odd, With the CableMod cable, And this is fully repeatable, In MSI Afterburner I cannot select anything higher than 100% Power, With the stock Nvidia cable it goes up to 111%, So CableMods cables are doing something funky.
I just ordered one a couple of days ago but from the EU store, hopefully it will be fine but it doesn`t sound promising

CableMod got greedy and took too much on, Started rushing orders so faults are inevitable especially when it seems various pins are missing and they keep saying crap like "Well technically that pin, That pin and that pin aren't required so we don't put them in, Oh and we splice cables together it's totally fine though trust me bro...." sadly 1 of the downfalls of having everything outsourced to China, Not China's fault but greedy companies.

£50 for some cable is as obscene as the price of a 4090 - then outsourced to China. CableCon.

Interesting, it seems that the vertical mount bracket is ok, that's good.
Albeit with the 3070 fitted the one I bought also works fine, using the vertical mount PCI-E slots on the case to fit the GPU through. No matter how big the case is tho, if using the cases vertical PCI-E backplate slots, it might be an issue with the larger depths of some of these Nvidia cards. My 3070 is noted as being 56mm in depth and fits fine. The latest AMD cards, for the wrong reasons some benefitting from being mounted vertically, seem ok after noting, non specific to any particular card, their depth. The larger 4090's might well be an issue, if you would wish to keep the side panel on.
If using a design, similar to what you bought, then there seems some flexibility.

BTW - good luck with your return and refund of that cable.

Same here, I went with the bequiet! 12vhpwr
Bad luck on the cable!! Makes me look forward to receiving my Corsair 2VHPWR cable, hopefully it just works and just £18!......

Similar story here, I went with the 12vhpwr cable from bequiet! (To match my bequiet! PSU).
£17 from OCUK nice and tidy braided cable and perfect fit rated at 600W.

Yes mate I love the look of my pc with the card on the riser cable .
I'm impressed that it fits well, great for you :)
Using just the cable as well, even tho the card is around 71mm in depth..?

Yes I too enjoy the look of vertically mounted GPU....

I don't understand how this cable works. Without it, you have to plug 4 x 8 pin cables into the adapter that the board manufacturer supplies, but the Corsair cable only has 2 x 8 pin connectors to supply 600w?

I'd link to the cable but I don't know if it breaks the anti-competitor rules.

Nevermind. Looks like this is a feature of the PSU itself.
