Last point, promise
Did you use the multi angle function in trying to tilt of the card as such, using the bracket?
Thanks
Just an update, It seems the PCI extension ribbon/connector that ships with that specific vertical bracket is hit and miss, Mine in the last few days kept causing the card to black screen, Give odd performance, Plugged card directly into the motherboard and all issues went away instantly, Tried a few times just to confirm so if you do get that bracket I'd look at getting a higher quality PCI extension ribbon/extension.
Many thanks for the update. Sad for you in how it has worked out.
When I used a vertical bracket with my 3070 all was well. However with my 3070 as a Gen 4 card, in my Alder Lake board, I had stability issues in the three or so different brands I tried. That was why I was most impressed with your initial thoughts and using such a high end card as you have.
From the little I have understood, not always price related as my last one cost almost double what the one you fitted, the PCI-E 4.0 x16 specification doesn't always seem to play well, as it did when I had a PCI-E 3.0 GPU ands using these riser cable kits.
I have noted that Fractal Design haven't added a Gen 4 bracket version to their list of add-ons you can buy, for my Meshify 2 XL case. They have a Gen 3 one.
What do you intend to do now...?
I'm just going to keep it in the standard horizontal position for now, Looks a bit cleaner this way to to be honest.
Great to hear, thanks for your positive feed backYes very happy with it, just fitted a CableMods 12VHPR Cable this morning. You can tell when the Pump and Fans turn on but it not loud by any means, I dont hear it at all when I have my Astro A50 headphones on. Absolutely no coil wine on this either, unlike the Zotac Airo 4090 and the MSI 3080 I had previously, that thought it was a teenager it whined so much
To answer my own question, it does seem that retail cards have the yellow tape. OverclockersUK mass unblocking video below shows a freshly opened card with the tape.Just a quick one for any Gigabyte 4090 Gaming OC owners. Did your card have yellow Gigabyte certified tape sealing the card in the anti-static bag? I got mine and had this, thought it might have been a factory refurb card sold as new. This isn't from Overclockers but another e-tailer where stock has crops up from time to time. Having watched a few videos i've seen the yellow tape on a couple of cards but wondered if any other retail owners have found the same.
are you of use using riser cables I read somewhere that there is performance issues is this true?
@Dicehunter FYI I'm going to try out a "LINKUP - Ultra PCIe 4.0 X16 Riser Cable [RTX4090 RX6950XT x570 B550 Z690 Tested]" - I just have a 3070 GPU, still it is a Gen 4 PCI-E GPU and will be used on a board that supports a PCI-E 4x16 slot.
I've used a Linkup PCIe 4.0 riser with a 3090 and it worked great on my X570 board so it should be fine.
