Tweak UI, allows you to remove the Icons on the desktop if you want to.

1) Go to START and select Run
2) Type GPEDIT.MSC
3) Navigate to User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Click on Desktop
4) On the right hand search " Remove Recycle Bin icon on the desktop " and double left click on it to ENABLE it.

Yer i only guessed the centre, dont bother getting it dead accurate, looks close enough (unless theres an easy way to make it centered ?)
