Finished Nodame Cantabile Finale last night, following a straight run through of all 3 seasons. The first was very good, although perhaps a little slow in places, with some dry humour and something really human to it.
Paris was unfortunately, undoubtedly the weak series, possibly due to the change in series director; dropping all/most of the characters from the first series almost soft reset the series, and it struggled to really tread new ground without being stale and a little predictable at times, especially in the 11 episodes compared to the original seasons 20+, and unfortunately the slowness the original series was somewhat drawn out, despite the series being shorter.
Finale was somewhat of a return to form, not as good as the first season, but undoubtedly better than the second, and perhaps returned to some of the key points that made the first series so enjoyable; the banter and closeness of the two main characters (although Chiaki never quite became ...not an ass...he DID get more likeable slowly though). Not having to build a fresh ensemble of characters in a short space of time allowed them to focus more on the relationship between the two main characters, and importantly the music, without getting sidetracked on as many tangents. Some of the Chiaki and Nodame moments were extremely human, and sometimes quite sweet in thier own ways. The specials, before and after the series (00 and 12) also fit in nicely with the timeline.

The only drawback was that the ending was a little rushed, and felt a little forced, I hear thats because of the manga, but then I also understand the mangaka was having real life issues when she closed Nodame Cantabile; so I think the anime studio perhaps could, or should have got away with some anime-only material here; and given the series more of a proper closure (with a name like Finale...come on, you need to round things off).
After everything that built up over the season, and all of Chiaki's deliberation before his decision was made, I was almost dissapointed, and I really think the series should have thrown another curveball Chiaki/Nodame moment right at the end; perhaps with him reluctantly (and in no way romantically) offering her a ring, or something to seal the deal like he FINALLY realised he both wanted and needed to, not just for her sake, but his own. I think Chiaki is probably the first 'male tsundere' I've seen, and I think it would have rather warmly closed off the series if pulled off in the way this series seemed to have a knack for. Perhaps a little cliched, but the series almost deserved the closure, and some of the moments where the feelings of the two main characters were really uncovered were some of the sweetest and funniest throughout the show.
I know the Japanese like semi-open endings though so perhaps thats why, but I think this series really COULD have afforded to give it some finality in that regards, rather than some heavy hinting of what might happen.

3 series and they never did get thier concerto together onscreen either :(

I generally agree with your comments over the relative strengths of the series but I would make a point on the openness of the ending.

The reason it is left open is because it is not over in the anime. As well as the three anime series there is also a live action TV series of season 1 (which is also very funny) and two films. The first live action film basically recaps the what has happened during the series, (I actually managed to catch this on TV when I was last in Japan and could understand what was going on from seeing the anime previously), and the second is supposedly set after the third series and finishes things up (haven't seen this yet).

Ah I heard the anime went up to the end of the manga and thus was 'finished', at least as per the material it's based on, which is part of the reason I'm a little harsh on the ending, or non existance of one. If a proper ending has been written by the original author for the live action, that's a step forward, but it still doesnt excuse the anime's (and the manga's) ending either, especially as the additional specials they released for the series after air date didnt really give any finality here either. Yes there was a lot of heavy implication, but it would have been nice to have SEEN it all tied up.

I've managed to find the Paris film (well, 2 part special anyway, Im presuming thats what you meant) and the series translated so I'll take a look at that (it'll be the first live action fansubbed thing I've watched so not a clue if I'll take to it).
I'm presuming someone is doing the second film, as I've seen mentions of a 2009 film part 1 around, but I'll wait for the 2nd part to come out as Im guessing it's a 2 parter same as the previous 'film'.

Wish they were all in HD rather than divx SD though.

That's fair enough,I can wait, plenty of other stuff to see.
Just to check though it is drama followed by 2 part Paris then this new two partner, I haven't missed anything?

Some sad news, apparently Satoshi Kon died yesterday :(

He was only 46, which surprised me given some of his work (perfect blue etc), and his visual style :(

As a truly odd coincidence, I'd just started watching Paprika on Blu-ray when I read the news (and watched Roujin Z on Saturday).

Okay i need your help anime fanatics, this is all very vague and probably mostly made up, but in my head its what happend.

I heard about series/movie which was very expensive to create. the first episode and or part of the film was them on in a van or bus and having to escape from being chased through a city

I know its hugely vague but any help would be appreciated.

sounds like the start of high school of the dead, but i don't think that was massively expensive.

any idea what it was about/enemies/what they where being chased by?

The part in Highschool with the van/bus is only from Episode 3 on i seem to remember.

Edit:Those boobs in Highschool....

When Zombies + Borderline Hentai + The Matrix are put together, you get Highschool of the Dead :p.

I'd rather they get on with the zombie stuff though. Once you've seen one pair of boobs you've seen em all, although it's to be expected.

I'm sure it will get dirtier as the series goes on lol.

The animation team of Highschool of the Dead must have been playing too much of Tecmo's Dead or Alive Xtreme 2 just to get an idea of how "breast physics" should work. :D

Lol,indeed.Maybe i'm going to be stoned to death but i need to confess that i like the series...It's like a zombieflick:Just brainless entertainment. And the boobs are a nice side-thingie :D

And to be honest.Saoke is hot :D

Lol not really.

Even I like to watch some "ecchi" shows just for the b00bies and some laughs (Running out into an infect world in undies, aprons and half-nekkid, WTF!). But as already mentioned, this show is ridiculous with regards to their physics. :D

And yeah, Saeko is hot indeed! I really like her voice actress. Like the manga, I hope to see more of her sadistic side.

Well,i'm only taking my first steps in the world of anime,so maybe that's why i'm easliy entertained :D

Tried several times to find out why so many people like anime/manga/hentai/whatever,but never encountered the right series i guess.Untill i saw a thread somewhere about Elfenlied. And you know what? That was what i've been searching for.I'm 40 years old now,and i only started to dig deeper in anime since lets say july so...

On the other had:Saw Paprika last month and was like:WTF is this??
