I must get Vampire Hunter D sometime, it's one of the first anime's I saw, but it's also one that i've been meaning to get on DVD for years (but never got round to).

Just started watching Great Teacher Onizuka, which I've borrowed off a mate. I wasn't expecting to like it, I'm usually into action animes, but so far its been quite funny and entertaining.

:D me liked that one as well, the L.A. is quite good as well

I've seen most of Gibli stuff and it still is top notch animation.
At the mo I'm watching
Kenshin - Friend has all 90+ episodes  Kenshin still rocks
Samurai 7 - Awesome Series
Full Metal Alchemist - AVA is cool
Ghost In The Shell Series 2 - Complicated
Lodos: Chronicals of War - Something along that line

I've seen and liked
Samurai champloo - Love the animation and humor
Wolfs Rain - Great story line
Ghost In The Shell 1st Series - Awesome

Theres more I have left out for sure, I will have to ask my friend hes the blockbuster of Animie, he must have at least 1500 DVDs and then add the laser disks.

Btw Samurai 7 on a Panasonic Plasma looks breath taking

When I rewatched Mahoro after about 18+ months I was taken by how funny it was :) (I'm going to rewatch the second series in a couple of weeks when I have the house to myself again).

Anyone see the news that Madman in Aus have apparently been bought up by another company
I was more than a bit shocked to read about it, but apparently the old staff will still be there (and under the direct control of the old owners), it sounds like the company that bought them out is going to let them run on a long leash as the anime side of things is profitable, and they mainly wanted the distribution/DVD expertise Madman have.

Just bought Xenosagas 2 for the PS2 this morning and it comes with a DVD film of Xenosagas 2, never heard of it?
Anyone else know much about it?

nope but I got it a while ago as well have not had the chance to watch it yet

I think the video is an OVA meant to accompany the game and give it some background?
Apparently there was also a TV series.

It sounds similar to the way the .hack project works, they had the TV series, then they had an OVA that went with each of the 4 games (Mars Daybreak the TV series is also based on a PS2 game I think).

Just had a quick look at it, it's computer animation :( About 55mins long.

There's other stuff I'd rather watch first I think.

The DVD that came with Xenosaga 2 is all the cutscene's from the first game that helps explain the story for those who didnt play the first one...Like me :D

I still havent watched it or played it yet (Only had it since Christmas :o )

Heh that sounds familiar :D
Got a pile of PS2 games to play because I'm still waiting for a memory card to arrive, and a pile of anime because I keep being too knackered in the evenings for subtitles. :(

Watched Bubblegum Crisis this week, even though it's old it's a classic. Really good show and they did a good job remastering it as it looked pretty nice too. I've ordered Tokyo 2040 so I'm hoping it's as good as the original.

Also watched X, fantastic, beautiful to watch and a great story. Enjoyed watching it although the ending was a bit confusing, but I'm getting used to that sort of thing now. :D Just a pity I got the old set as they are releasing it as a Remix set soon, then again I don't have a 5.1 system so It isn't that bad.

Watched Full Metal Panic! yesterday. What a show, action, mechas, comedy, fantastic. Loved the characters and the humour. Has the second funniest moment I've seen when Souske jumps off the train and says "It's just a coincidence", couldn't stop laughing. :D

Going to watch Full Metal Panic? FOMOFFU today, the original was so funny I'll probably die laughing watching the comedy version.

I've seen the movie but not watched the series, the movie was great.
I should really get round to picking up the series but I'm pretty broke at the mo so will have to wait a while :(

Dubbed tend to irritates me :( I prefer subtitles, I just need to be vaguely awake to keep up with them :o Although thinking about it, I don't mind Full Metal Panic dubbed so that might be worth a go :D
Got work all weekend but finish at 4 on Sunday so might try to fit in some time then and just relax watching something.

Bubblegum Crisis is one of my favourite OVA's even after everything else i've watched, as you say it's a classic (I want to get the remastered version sometime).
The opening of episode 1 is probably my favourite of all animes (I think i've said this before).

2040 isn't quite the same :(
It's set in an alternate reality type thing (basically most of the characters are roughly the same but it's not before/duing/after the OVA's but a retelling), and the music isn't a patch on 2032.

It's worth noting there are 3 or 4 spin offs from the OVA's and 2040, you've got A.D. Police, new AD Police (one is closer to the original OVA's and is an OVA series the other is based from 2040), Parasite Dolls, Bubblegum Crash - the direct sequel to 2032 but isn't a patch on the original.

There is also the 2041 sequel ADV were trying to get into production years ago (at the moment it looks like it's not going to happen as it's been years since they said anything about it).

Soundwave, Fumoffu is the only thing the mascot of a themepark that Chidori and co like can say. it's amazing what can be said with just one word to work with;).
If you ever watch the series there is a great scene where the pony tail man has a conversation with Fumoffu
Fumo?
Poni, poni PONI!
Fuuuumo fumo fumoffu
ponnni pony po-ni
Fumofuuuuu....

Yeah I've watched the A.D. Police OVA and I've got Bubblegum Crash but was waiting till I saw the OVA first. Didn't know about Parasite Dolls I'll have to check it out.

HAHAHA! That was one of the funnier episodes, along with the Yakuza one, the rugby one and the Hot Springs one. Just watched the series and I have to say it was funny all the way through. Some of it was just funny but some of it was comedy gold. The first 2 double episodes were fantastic though.

They are releasing a 5 disc Remix set in July so that would be the best and cheapest way to get it so it's definately worth waiting anyway. I've not watched the movie yet but I gather it's a lot more action orientated and focuses more on the fights than the series does.

I've just finished The Irresponsible Captain Tylor OVA's and have to say they were better than I expected.

For anyone else who watches them, don't be suprised if 3-8 seem to leave a lot of loose ends as they take place parallel to 9 and 10 ("From Here To Eternity") from what I can make out.

I would say overall I've enjoyed the whole series and OVA's although at times it seemed a tad boring/repetative, a lot of the characters seemed to develop quite nicely and it had a fitting end in some respects, although relatively open ended (I suspect the manga went on, and they may have been thinking of a sequel to the series).

I would say it's probably a B+ rating for me overall.

As a side note, the books that came with the OVA and TV sets are extremely short (about 30 pages each), but have a story that I could just about see as one of the TV or OVA episodes (I guess it would have to be after From Here To Eternity Part 2).
*spoilers*As it has Tylor and Star married.*spoilers*

Watched The Places Promised In Our Early Days yesterday, what a beautiful anime, the director (same guy who did Voices from a Distant Star almost single handedly) has brought the same eye for detail to this whilist obviously having a bigger budget. The backgrounds are quite possibly some of the most beautiful in Anime and boy can this guy draw sky and he has a real flare for the way light interacts with surfaces.

The story itself is good, albiet a little open in places.

I would recomend this to anyone although not as beautiful as Voices it is still a stunning example of anime art.
