The AMD Driver Thread

I can understand that.

Again really sorry for the short delay guys, obviously not ideal I'll update you as soon as i can.

My only issue is that we keep on getting told dates that weren't met. Was originally told by Robert Hallock that this driver would be coming Jan/Feb, then it changes to March 19 and now no date at all. Not trying to shoot the messenger but i'm really not happy with how AMD have conducted themselves with these drivers.

As such:

March 19 promise

AMD is very excited that monitors compatible with AMD FreeSync technology are now available in select regions in EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa). We know gamers are excited to bring home an incredibly smooth and tearing-free PC gaming experience powered by AMD Radeon GPUs and AMD A-Series APUs. We’re pleased to announce that a compatible AMD Catalyst graphics driver to enable AMD FreeSync technology for single-GPU configurations will be publicly available on AMD.com starting March 19, 2015. Support for AMD CrossFire configurations will be available the following month in April 2015.

Duly noted.

Screw all the big fancy stuff with freesync and GCN 1.0 VSR, just throw together a driver with profiles for the games that haven't got them so I can at least use my two GPU's properly!

Been planning an upgrade for the summer but a new green GPU may be getting added to the mix.

Feel sorry for you though, Matt. Taking all this flak even though you're just the middle man in all this.

Although in not bothered about a driver release at the moment it is a bit amateur all this.

Release Dates should be a definite and bringing out monitors that can't use the features yet is ridiculous.

There better off giving a late date and delivering early.

That's my job and i take this feedback on board - it's important and I ensure it gets heard.

At the end of the day we all want the same thing, so it's perfectly fine. :)

BTW... I think I've sussed out a fix for my issue. Will forward you the details for future reference.

Thanks Gee.

Hmmm i've found a link to the the apparent 15.3.1 press drivers do I risk it and install them? Apparently they dont ahve a dying light CF profile in them but the official ones will. They do however have a far cry 4 CF profile.

What are the rules on posting such links?

Buy 2 AMD cards they said.

2x the performance they said.

In reality you get less performance, wait 4x as long for drivers, and get let down at least 2x when compared to the 'other brand'

Sorry just fed up with all the wait, wait and fail :(

Quick question for you AMDMatt.

I own both a 290X and a GTX 980 and love em both, Never had a driver problem with either company since around 2007.

Nvidia bring out drivers with nearly every game release usually once per month sometimes more than once per month to ensure customers are getting the best performance possible and sometimes new features are also included along with GFE, Physx updates etc...

Why does AMD only bring 1 out once every few months ?

They've been posted several times already.

Just use them and switch over when the official one is available.

I won't comment on competitor behaviour.

What i can say is yes, this driver has taken longer than usual. However this is not going to be the norm and we'll be sticking to our usual schedule, same as last year, of one driver per month. (or thereabouts)

No harm in doing this in the meantime, if you can't wait.

Understood and i agree, we'll learn from this don't worry. The last thing we want to do is mislead people, that is not the intention.

But AMD don't learn from it.
Literally (As I keep saying, as apparently it's not getting heard) everything AMD seem to do is late. Doesn't matter if it's an interview, an FAQ, software, hardware. It's late (Or if not late, it's so ridiculously not smooth as a launch, it's "on time" by technicality)

Matt, is there anything worth waiting for in this driver for 7970 users like myself?

I understand a lot of these new features aren't compatible with older cards like these. An upgrade might be in order, not convinced my usual AMD bias is now warranted though :(
