The AMD Driver Thread

I had an EVGA GQ 650w with my 9070 build but it was over 7 years old so I bought an MSI Mag 850w (in sig) and so far its running fine, can hear the fan on it a little bit but guess I'll get used to it.

Ok so having recently bought the XFX Swift 9060 XT 16gb, I thought I’d enjoy a battlefield 6 session without any hiccups, compared to my previous 2060 super that ran out of vram frequently whilst playing it.

In two sessions since installing the 9060 and playing battlefield 6, I’ve crashed twice so far and it’s thrown up the error in the image included. Each time my second monitor has stopped working and going into device manager shows that the 9060 is having trouble with the driver losing itself somehow. So I have to either reinstall the driver manually by location or install the package again.

https://ibb.co/kVC9XwBw

Now the error is pointing towards it not being the latest driver, which it is. I’ve reinstalled this twice now after each crash with the same result. For my third attempt which I’ll get around to tonight I’ll roll back to Octobers driver release to see if that helps (although not holding my breath as this is reported to happen on previous driver releases too).

So what I’m asking is, does anyone have a fix or a workaround? One that actually works.

I’ve seen suggestions from disabling resizable bar, turning XMP off, underclocking the card, installing DirectX runtime end user, turn all gfx settings to low and many other solutions but none that fix the problem.

It’s pretty annoying as I thought I’d take the plunge and go AMD for once but this is leaving a sour taste in my mouth, for what should have been a simple and enjoyable upgrade transition. :(

When switching from Nvidia to AMD, did you use DDU to clear out all the residual Nvidia files?

If you have a spare storage drive, you could install windows and then BF6 on that and try to rule out some sort of software/driver conflict on your current Windows install.

Yes all previous NVIDIA drivers and software were removed using DDU before installation of said device.

Could try deleting the game specific shader cache which apparently is located in -

%localappdata%\Battlefield 6\cache

Will force it to recompile for your new GPU.

There is also a couple of other files mentioned to delete in this thread on EA forums - https://forums.ea.com/discussions/b...issues-en/bf6-shaders-crash-at-start/12847286
The shaders were recompiled after I had installed the new card, so they are fine and have been refreshed, no issues there. I can actually start and play rounds of BF6 but randomly mid match, it’ll hang and crash. This seems to be roughly 2-3 matches into a session. It’ll hang, freeze and then throw me to desktop with that error message.

I literally lose a monitor due to my 9060 driver losing itself, throwing up an exclamation mark on device manager, forcing me to reinstall the 9060 driver again, so all signs point to a driver issue. It’s not as if the driver files are being moved or deleted from the location they’re in when it’s installed so I’m confused why it loses itself or the location of said driver files.

I can imagine this is pretty frustrating however it really could be any number of things. What Power supply do you have ? as I have just been reading that it can be when there isn't quite enough voltage to the card. If you try under volting by 30 mv and lowering the GPU clocks by 100Mhz does it help ? If it does it possibly points to power issues if you are on the limit.

Which driver are you you currently running ? it might be worth dropping to the previous version. Don't throw the towel in yet as they are great cards and I have been through at least 6 cards in this household (two sons and myself) in the last 5 years and not had a single issue.

Like I’ve already mentioned I’ve been using the latest drivers. Going to try rolling back to earlier revisions tonight but I’ve seen posts saying this doesn’t fix the issue either. Hence me asking in here.

I have a 1000w PSU so can’t see that as an issue either. Also very new.

I also mentioned I’ve tried the whole under clocking solutions but they don’t fix the issue. It seems everyones just guessing pot luck at the moment from all the solutions I’ve tried, ie resizable bar, XMP disabling, fast boot off, bios/windows updates/drivers etc all upto date and so on.

It would be nice to hear from somebody from AMD as to why this is happening and there are many posts all over the internet about it with no definitive fix.

Agreed, I mean it could just be the card and you need an RMA. I have had 3 cards in my purchase history that were just borked and had similar issues to this, both AMD and Nvidia, replacements fixed it. My current 9070xt never crashes and my fav game is bf6 not that it helps you :-(

Silver lining you have nice shiny new PSU for at least the next decade. :) And I suppose if the card still has issues you can RMA and say a new PSU has been tested with it. Good luck.

Okay new PSU, NZXt c1200 gold instaleld last night, issue persists with the hang crashing out of games with dx eror,s so sending the card back, have a new one arriving tomorrow, hopefully that'll sort it.

I have a further issue, my PSU at rest is doing occasional click,s and then clicks a bit when moving mouse around, it sounds like a switch being opened/closed, worrying sort of arcing sound, oddly enough if i put the current CPu under burn on OCCT or the curent (potentially defective) gpu under strai, the noise goes away. Could this all be linked, or is my new CPu a pile of ******* and broken too?

Ah sorry mate to hear it didn't help. Is the clicking from the new PSU?! There shouldn't be any clicks when operating. When first powered on it can make a click/switch sound but after that it should be quiet. If there is no obvious obstructions like the fan hitting something, or cables not inserted fully, I'd say that could have a fault. See what others think!

Glad you have a new GPU arriving.

Not unusual for people moving between AMD and Nvidia, and vice versa, to have random unusual issues. Usually DDU is enough, but sometimes gremlins remain and a full windows reinstall is the only answer. But maybes keep that as last resort!

Edit: could try repairing game files. And maybes running a dism and SFC scan on windows in case there is corruption their, causing the directx crash. Not sure if any background apps could cause problems either.

The noise is from the new PSU, and is directly from inside of it, the fan spins with no issues, and when pressing the button for fan on or not, it doesn't seem to make any odds to the clicking, which is intermittent, but seems to become vastly more common as uptime progresses.
As I sit here currently I am getting no noise, I've rechecked all the connection and they seem firmly home.
The new card should arrive, tomorrow so I shall test it in place, seem if my problem goes away, and at least I'll have an idea if there remains any issue at that stage.
No computer issues for years and years, changed GPU and a world of mess occurs, somewhat frustrating.

I'll let you know how tomorrow goes.

Yeah please. These things are sent to try us. PCs aren't meant for gaming on. Meant for fixing problems. Hah.

Dunno if it's the latest driver but my 9060 XT is causing me all sorts of issues in Arc Raiders. Game keeps crashing with this:

Code:
LoginId:
EpicAccountId:

CurrentQueue.Fence.D3DFence->GetCompletedValue() failed at .\Runtime/D3D12RHI/Private/D3D12Submission.cpp:994 with error DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED with Reason: DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG

GPU Crash: EnqueueCopy | AccessModePass[Graphics] | Bink | BufferPoolCopyOps | TexturePoolCopyOps

PioneerGame
PioneerGame
runtime

Lots of others seem affected, not just in Arc Raiders

@AMD_Vik are you guys aware of this?

I've also had a few freezes with my 9060 XT on Arc Raiders, whether its loading the game up and its freezing on the quote screens, unable to do anything but end task or random 10 seconds freezes during gameplay.

Latest drivers.

this TDR specific to ARC Raiders + the 9060XT? yes, we're working towards resolving that. Similar reports in other games are unrelated.

Not in DX mode no.

You can run 25.11.1 if you install the Vulkan SDK and run the game in Vulkan mode.

Update your driver

Download and install this. https://www.geeks3d.com/dl/show/10160 just as it comes, no need to set anything up or check boxes.

You will not be able to set Vulkan mode in the options menu because the game will not launch, so here is how you get around that.

In windows explorer enable show hidden files, navigate to C:\Users\COMPUTER NAME\AppData\Local\star citizen

In there you should find a folder called something like 'starcitizen_(sc-alpha-4.3.2)_cc9wt_0' in it navigate to graphics settings and open the JSON in notepad, the string that says "GraphicsRenderer": 0 change the 0 to a 1, save it

Now the game should launch in Vulkan mode from the game launcher.

The reason you have to do all this is because Vulkan is also broken on the AMD driver with Star Citizen, installing the Vulkan SDK somehow fixes it.
Thanks.
I'd tried changing the JSON but hadn't installed the Vulkan SDK so the game wouldn't load in Vulkan.
