The AMD Driver Thread

@AMD_Vik Dont suppose this fixes subnautica ?
Be nice for them to put stuff like this under 'Known Issues' if it aint fixed yet so that we dont have to keep asking @AMD_Vik or installing the drivers just to see if xxxx got fixed because it wasnt mentioned in the driver notes to let us know in the first place :(

Cant be too hard to do right?

I feel sorry for Vik, asked the same questions every month which is why I wont bother asking about the Second Life issue this time around :(

I'll stay on 26.7.1 until I read somewhere that my particular issue is fixed

Yeah I don't really want to bother him either, glad he is here though.

Yeah the driver updates never seem to have known issues more than a few lines, mostly stuff that aint too problematic for most yet the forums and ppl that play games know theres more that needs fixing and are like why isnt the issue i have or i know a lot have from forums and what not listed as known issues. But i guess one of them things.

Also with the ai boom (lol) it helps ppl figure out maths issues where humans couldnt, or science stuff, yet cant help fix bugs for gfx cards maybe. :D Ok joking of course but, i wonder could it help, do they try it, do they not. Is it even possible for an ai to fix said issues. Maybe api issues like the old dx11 performance issue maybe but probably not per game. But what do i know.

the failures related to hybrid gfx (RDNA 2 iGPU + 3/4 dGPU) should be fixed in 26.8.1, yeah

This is what happened last december. about 5 key issues were omitted from the release notes whilst I was on vacation, so i had to make sure users were appraised in forums and such.

@AMD_Vik - latest patch notes for Skate. suggest anecdotally that the crashing issue is resolved since 26.7.1... I've played a few hours on 26.8.1 and so far, so good :)

I am having an issue with ARK: Survival Ascended, but I think they broke that, rather than drivers - was working fine on whatever old version I was running a couple of months ago (I upgraded for the FSR INT8 support), but since the Genesis DLC dropped I've had problems with it running fine for an hour or two, then started to get big (multi second) frametime spikes...
Have yet to try with 26.8.1 but clearing shader cache solves it for a while (until I move around the map too much - But I'm having the same issue with the original 'Island' map).
Will do some more testing over the weekend, but as I said, I think it's more likely that the game has broken it (and I assume they don't do a whole lot of QA testing on AMD!)

strange, I don't think anything has gone in from our end to fix skate unless it was an unrelated change to the UMD or elsewhere. Glad it's working now, though

Let us know how you get on

Hey All

Back to PC gaming after 4 or 5 years away.
Build is 9700x, 9070xt, 32gig 6400 ram, ASUS Pro Art M/board, nvme etc etc.

Couple of things.
Anyone got a good video or site to explain all the new settings for me, FSR, frame gen, setting resolution in game and upscaling it.

Downloaded the AMD adrenalin edition and basically just clicked performance mode.
Currently trying a few older games in my steam library, Dying Light, AC Origins and a few others.

Appreciate anyone helping a re-noob :)

Not watched it yet but I like this guy and this video might well be perfect for you :)

First off, congrats! That's some rig to get back into gaming with, lots of fun ahead.

Some quick pointers to get you started, mainly because I saw you mention AC:O and I've just recently played through that myself.

AMD drivers,
There's a bit to learn but straight off double check that Windows display settings are set to the right refresh rate for the monitor and then if you have a VRR/Freesync display check the display section in the drivers and make sure it is enabled in there.
You can also enable VSR, Virtual Super Resolution in there, to select a res higher than your monitors.
Change the mode in the drivers off of performance and just use default/custom for now and enable/disable and test settings as needed.

Overclocking/undervolting.
I'd probably just stick with stock for a bit while you test, get used to how the card performs before tweaking too much.
But if/when you want to play about...

memtest_vulkan
https://github.com/GpuZelenograd/memtest_vulkan
you can run this while bumping up the mem speed in the drivers.
once you see the throughput start to do down you are on the edge of stability and the memory is error correcting, so back off a little bit.

3DMark \ benchmark \ feature tests \ Intel Xess feature test.
This, for me at least, is the best test for undervolts/overclocks. It will crash at settings that are rock stable elsewhere.

Extremely useful resource for finding issues, fixes and mods for older games.
A must have, IMO, bookmark for PC gamers especially if you're going to be playing older games.

AC:Origins.
You'll probably find AC:O will run fine as is on your setup but you can also improve performance by using dxvk and may see this recommended a lot.

dxvk is it's own whole topic to dive into.
If you do try using dxvk with AC:O I'd be interested in your results, as I had a bit of fun getting it to work!

You can read my threads on it here...

https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk/issues/5813

https://github.com/Digger1955/dxvk-gplall/issues/109

I played most of the game with dxvk v2.6.0 but finished it with the test build from that second thread.

Optiscaler - For upscaling, framegen.
https://github.com/optiscaler/OptiScaler
https://github.com/optiscaler/OptiPatcher

As an AMD owner/gamer you're going to hear a lot about Optiscaler and like dxvk is a whole topic on it's own.

Should be enough to get you started!

Not sure I agree with his understanding/recommendation for Enhanced Sync tbh.
Seems to go against my understanding of it and AMD's own recommendations.
IMO it's one you should test for yourself, I just leave it enabled, along with anti-lag.

Might do some testing myself, as I wonder if it affects his frame gen testing as the FG testing I've been doing can't seem to replicate his issues.

Thanks man..

probably the best reply I have had on here in years..

PC is for sofa gaming, so plugged in to a LG C4 oled tv. Freesync enabled, playing Mad Max the fps according to steam went to 300fps, need to limit the fps..

plenty of reading for me to do..

Appreciate the reply.

No worries.

In the drivers, Gaming, Graphics there is an option 'Frame Rate Target Control' start there, I have decent results with it.
There's going to be a lot of debate around the best way to limit FPS, should it be at or below your displays Hz, what s/w to use, vsync on/off etc.
Basically just test it, see what works for your setup/game.
Just limit to your display's Hz to start with, if it's a high Hz display like 120Hz and above, you might want to try limiting it to below your max Hz especially if using upscaling/frame gen.
The idea being to stop it overshooting your cap.
My understanding of enhanced sync is that it's meant to help with being below your max Hz or above but again, just test, see what works.
But mainly, just have fun playing some games and not worry too much, out of the box settings should just work well enough. :)

Got it running OK with a 200 MHz drop now which makes almost no difference to performance, maybe a drop of 1fps which I can live with as long as it remains stable. Ran plenty of game last night, all seemed stable. I did get a shockingly bad drop is performance to Black Myth but deleting the conf folder got that back to 111 fps with everything on max including ray tracing.
Well it turned out the issue was a failing CPU or motherboard, both are now swapped, for higher end devices no less. Everything is all rosy in my garden again. I'm just very glad it wasn't the RAM.

What a time to be alive.. When you hope your cpu is bust rather than your ram...
It's crazy how things have gone... If my RAM went I'd be almost better off moving to AM5 with a low/mid CPU and 32GB rather than replacing it (this is the reason I've sat on some spare RAM rather than selling it).

My current kit is this:

I Paid £210 (used - MM) for that AND my motherboard (Asus X570-f) a couple of years ago... :(
