The AMD Driver Thread

So here is something that really bothers me..

When watching a Twitch channel my RX 480 is being used to render the stream when my 7950 never did this, i've not changed anything in Chrome so.. wtf?

I have a 6700K that can do everything like this so why the hell would i want my RX 480 to do any sort of work for a bloody video?

Really annoying hearing my fans ramp up a bit, something that i only wish happens when i actually do some gaming.. a fix, something in Chrome settings maybe? would be really bloody nice if anybody has one..

Somebody please help me out here, is there a driver setting somewhere?

Edit.. just to add, if i play Twitch on my third monitor thats running off my 6700K iGPU, my 480 runs nice n cool around 25-26c. MY CPU temps stay the same, whichever monitor i play Twitch on.

Ridiculous!

Im surprised you never gave up on Xfire sooner, got to hand it to you for persisting for so, so long, i don't know how you did it, ive had Xfire disabled for over a year now, and never looked back, had no problems at all, it really is utter garbage.

So why do you apparently still have 2 cards installed if its so bad? Surely the obvious thing to do is sell one on?

As ive previously said, it would be a right fart on getting one out, as they are very close together, so im just going to wait until i upgrade, before ripping em both out.

I was in the same scenario... had 3 cards water cooled and linked up. Just ended up selling all three together. Lost my ass on them but whatever, much happier on a single card again lol.

EXCEPT the flickering! Which I've found that as soon as I exit a game just open amd settings up, go to display, disable freesync then re-enable real quick and it's fine, until a I exit another game hahaha

just keep on throwing in a report and post replies and posts on the AMD driver support forum.

Yeah a right faff on, id probably have to get em both out, as i doubt id get anything thin enough between them to pop the release tab of my second card, as i can hardly see it, if at all, so id rather wait until im going to take both out, as even be a faff on trying to get my top card out, as my NH-D15 is sitting right on the top of it, with one of its fans covering its release tab.

Anyone else getting an increased frequency of sudden black screens (with the Benq monitor light staying white/active) for a while before getting a reboot, after flicking to a different Chrome tab with these 16.8.3s?

I get this issue starting cs:go. Black screen then a reboot before I reach a splash screen.

Ive only had the black screens twice, also got the BenQ XL2730Z FreeSync, but use Firefox, and still using the Crimson 16.3s, first one was months, and months ago, while browsing, the screen just went black for a second or 2, with the monitor light staying white/active as above, i jumped back like wtf happened there, and the picture just reappeared, second time was a few days ago, exactly the same.

Yes I'm getting unrecoverable black screens (no reboot though) every few hours when using Chrome (often when typing into the address bar). I have Chrome set to use hardware acceleration.

Crashes never happen when using my DVI 1080p monitor, only when using a higher res monitor via DP. MG279Q and 29UM68 both culprits there. Old 1080p monitor only has DVI+HDMI so can't test for DP issue using that. Pretty sure my last crash was while Freesync was disabled, so I don't think that is the issue.

Either the driver or hardware crashes, and the only way I've found to recover is to reboot the system. I have a "reboot graphics driver" bat file on my desktop that I hope to try after the next black screen, but its a bugger to find with no working screen (if using multi-monitor, both screens go down - Win+P to change display output doesn't help). If I get a chance to try the driver reset I'll report back.

RX 480 NITRO+ 4GB not OC, running 16.8.2. Haven't had any problems in games or on old monitor.

There is a "use hardware acceleration if available" setting in Chrome Settings, under Advanced > System (right at the bottom). You could toggle that and see how the CPU handles the rendering?

I got told off by AMDMatt a few weeks ago for doing this with my 7950 :D It wasn't the graphics card noise that was the problem, but the PSU spinning up under the extra load (I think).

Makes no difference, on or off in Chrome.. both core and memory clocks ramp up, bringing up GPU temps.. power efficiency enabled in driver setting helps keep the core clock at 300 but memory still ramps up to 1750, still bringing up the temps. They stay at 300/300 when doing nothing.. i think VLC Player ramps the clocks up also.

Pretty dumb considering these cards are for gamers that have a more than decent CPU that can handle all of these tasks.

AMD need to pull their fingers out of their ***** cuz im pretty annoyed with this, considering my 7950 wasnt ever needed for these same tasks.

Really disappointed with the RX 480 in this department, and they want you to use 0db when not gaming? Pfft!

Come on AMD, sort your **** out!

Even though my screen lock ups have reduced I don't think it's acceptable.

I'm just waiting for an MSI Gaming X 1070 to drop in price, and then this long time AMD customer is jumping to NVidia.

I'm not being funny man but Terry's (driver guy) on holiday, I'm not sure what you want him to do from a beach (apart from supping looooooots of cocktails!!!????)

Give it 2/3 weeks/months and it'll be fiiiiiine :)

Could be worse, nVidia could be setting your card on fire :D

;)

More than one JediFragger just joking about.. I have couple of the driver team on my twitter.

Bugs happen, I expect that what matters is how fast they are fixed. Freesync fix on desktop is way over due tbh

@MyBrains
Seems like your 480 is processing the video, is they anything in the video tab of Crimson ticked?
Not at PC so can't remember what's there from top my head but I use I remember a setting something to do with Internet video.
