The AMD Driver Thread

@AMDMatt do you know if AMD are aware of the freezing and stuttering when playing videos in Windows 10 with Vega?

When do you think we might have a fix for this/ crossfire support.

It would be nice if this was prioritized over mining drivers. (Although I can see why you might get a mining driver out with all the sales that are in mining)

Thanks, we'll look into it.

CrossFire driver will become available when it is ready, can't provide you with a specific timeframe.

I tried the new drivers on my 64 air and the results, for me at least are terrible :(

With these drivers I cannot get the card to even run at stock speeds. No amount of under volting, over volting, fiddling with power states helps. Power limit 50% doesnt help. It throttles at power state 6 now, temps hit 85c even lowering the maximum temp to 80c and the fan rpm's to 3500.

None of the 3 preset profiles work, balanced eventually throttles now.

I'll have to DDU and go back to the previous drivers just to be able to use the card at stock speeds.

I'm temped to send it back (wasnt purchased from OCUK) as I have had a few black screens now and the mouse / system freeze / resume bugs. The only thing stopping me is I got it at the cheaper price and I use a freesync monitor.

Not happy.

Being one of the lucky ones to get this card at the intro price, I totally agree with you, it is not hard to get this card to 85c even in a well ventilated case. even with under volting mine like yours wants to take off (or sounds like it). For me I'll be getting mine wet as soon as funds allow.

Well I put the previous drivers back on and now afterburner / wattman say im stable again (who knows). Running again with my previous undervolt settings, temps havent exceed 78c in all benchmarks I just ran and the core clocks locked at stock 1632, mem at 1050.

I guess that's marginally better than being available when it's not ready, but only just.
It almost seems like Vega became available when it wasn't ready though.... :P

I read 85c temp on the card but I want to see peoples case temps when they have this going on, ambient is the base line also. Just so I can compare, how much does using the cards in game raise the case temp. If it was possible to drop case a lot would that help. One review I saw insisted it will heat your entire room which in my small room is probably true but also of any high end rig. I intend to have outside air through a vent counter that I think, wc is the obvious alternate but I'd rather keep any card stock for simplicity so I wonder if a perfect case temp would help

mining drivers
I think AMD is obliged to fix any bugs in their compute performance. Its labelled as mining but they have industrial customers who use their cards for non gaming, their fix helps all of them ?

I'm not sure what's happening with the core clocks myself, I set 1550 and they show as around 1420is, to hit 1500 core I need to set 1670ish.

Though having said that I am very happy so far with these drivers. Your issue with the clock states going nuts are down to a bug with voltage settings. To fix it you need to ensure the voltage settings are identical in all 3 voltage fields (State 6, 7 and HBM2)

My manual settings in Wattman
  • Clocks State 6 and State 7: 1602 (gives around 1470 core). Any higher and I need to increase the voltage.
  • HBM2 Clock: 1000MHz
  • Fan speed: Min 400, Target 2300
  • Temperature: Max 85, Target 75
  • Power Limit +10% (helps with some minor throttling)
  • Voltage Control: (wont actually go below .950mV despite putting in lower numbers)
  • State 6: .950mV
  • State 7: .950mV
  • HBM: .950mV

With these settings my GPU sits at 1470 pretty much constant at 2300RPM, with temperatures of 77c - 78c. It is actually faster than the stock balanced mode while being quieter and around 8c cooler.

Latest driver seems ok on my 480. But I'm still having a problem where wattman just doesn't save the voltage settings and keeps reverting to default, same for the last couple of releases :/
