alt and tabbing is more of a ram issue i would have thought although the gpu does play a part too due to switch of 3d states on and off during the switching.

Really for a 1 point upgrade from 20.2.1? If going from 19.x.x I would agree. Will give it a go if happens again. I'm on z390 so no issues with chipset drivers. You have to use DDU in windows safe mode before installing the drivers. And if you use DDU you have to re-install chipset drivers (if having AMD board) as they are getting wiped also.
Yeah it's not a normal game playing scenario so other factors could be at play. I did get one black screen on the previous driver in the month it was installed so time will tell if this is any worsealt and tabbing is more of a ram issue i would have thought although the gpu does play a part too due to switch of 3d states on and off during the switching.

I know right. But listening to you and Panos one would think there was nothing to fixA lot of fixes in these drivers.
It's a pain in the ass though as need to reset up all global settings and game profiles again. If DDU is necessary for every driver update then it really is time to give up on AMD.Better safe than sorry.
Consider time wasted if having issue, than the minutes takes to use DDU
Does the same and wipes all personalised settings I'm sure.Does AMD's own cleanup utility provide a happy medium between updates?
AMD have been taking my advice again and seem to have elongated their sprint cycles and now hopefully taking more time to test their changes, rather than dumping weekly fixes that cause as many new issues as the defects resolved. Let's hope it's enough to quell the disillusionistsA lot of fixes in these drivers.

Had 5 hours of trouble free borderlands after that alt tab black screen although the artefacting is still there with the one particular gun. It only occurs when in a major fire fight with lots of movement. Could be a game bug of course but not seeing it being complained about on the forums. So 20.2.2 is a meh for me: no better, no worse
I've only used DDU when switching between 19 and 20 driver versions on the back of recommendations on this forum. I dont use it for incremental releases. I am sceptical about letting 3rd party apps tinker around with another app's settings in my registry. Like you say, there's a good chance stuff gets missed as AMD drivers evolve and their architecture changes. I would have thought AMDs own built in removal tool is more reliable since they know their architecture better than anyone, you'd hope anywayAre you sure the problem isn't something else, or maybe the fact that you use DDU all the time? There have been reports it can cause issues, especially when new versions lag behind any changes made in the AMD drivers/install package.
Better safe than sorry.

Well I tested and still the same stability issue. This time was just a total system hang, no black screen, no TDR driver reset, no bugcheck.
Is pretty much 100% repeatable (though random in how long it takes) by playing Endless Legends and having Twitch playing on the second screen, using Firefox.
Display 1 : 1440p/144Hz/Freesync/DP
Display 2 : 1080p/120Hz/DP
Display 3 : HDMI Connected to Yamaha amp for audio, using 'Dolby Atmos for home theatre'. 1080p/60Hz/HDMI
^ on previous drivers I had tested switching audio to a sound card (STX II) and various different High def audio drivers for the HDMI but all had the same issues.
I agree with you. DDU has its place as part of a diagnose and fix process but I wouldn't just do it as a matter of course. It's personal preference of course. If folks swear by it then who am I to say they are wrong?Guys honestly they is no need for DDU anymore.
Built into the amd drivers is a clean up that you can either start fresh =DDU or a keep settings and fresh install the driver or just install over the top.
Not used DDU for ages I would now only use that if I was changing to Nvidia or upgrading to a new GPU.
I hardly ever use DDU. For AMD drivers I install over the top or do the fresh install. When switching from AMD to Nvida or vice versa I do a clean install of windows.Guys honestly they is no need for DDU anymore.

Edit: plus its optional not mandatory so not even AMD see it as necessary
I used to get that with my system. Was not drivers though as a bios update fixed it. Was when my system was new and kept happening for 6-8 months. It would happen mostly while watching twitch.
Do you mean GPU or mobo bios? afaik I'm about as up to date as can be, my Vega64 is a reference model and tbh my mobo is pretty old now.
But saying that I have been doing more testing today, first I noticed that my profile GPU voltage settings now seem to be applying ok.
Not sure why it's ok today but will keep an eye on it.
Also played some more Endless Legends and it seems 'fixed' for now. Stupidly, even though I'd read the release notes and saw the know issue related to Enhanced Sync I actually had it enabled. I guess I just did my normal driver settings when going through them all and just put it on by default as I'm so used to doing so.
One thing I have noticed though is that the Twitch streams on the second monitor now seem to have more issues, as in the video will skip frames or randomly pause with the sound continuing to work ok.
Guessing this is to do with what ever fix or workaround they've put in place to catch and stop what ever the issue was that was causing the crashes previously.
