The AMD Driver Thread

I appreciate that but the clocks have gone from over 2Ghz to under 1900Mhz and the fans now sound like a hairdryer.

I don't understand how the delta between Edge and Junction can be so dramatic and rising, did you see Chernobyl? I feel like that guy helplessly watching the Mega Watt readout climb and climb.... it doesn't feel like this is anything that should be "Normal"

What settings are you using for the card in wattman and have they remained consistent from when you were seeing better performance? Sorry I didn't see the part where you said the performance was suffering from it. Have you got a bios switch on the card maybe try switching it couldn't hurt to try.

No BIOS switch, I run it at 2095Mhz (Default setting) with 1150mv, down from 1200mv, +0% power target. Peak power is 190 Watts

I did run Final Fantasy XV with 1900Mhz and 1020mv, the GPU stuck to about 1850Mhz with a peak power of 172 Watts, Edge Temp fell to around 65c, Junction Temp still around 108 to 110c, that's a 45c Delta.

I noticed on Superposition Benchmark the scores gone lower with newer drivers not that it matters in real usage :o

Yeah synthetics... :) i have seen my performance go up on average in actual games over the few months i have had the GPU, for example in that Final Fantasy Benchmark the first time i ran it i got about 8100 @ 1440P Standard, its now scoring 8500 easily.

It just a shame mine has runaway Junction Temps, i might DDU the drivers later, see if that help's.

Might be of use.
Also it seems the cards begins throttling right after 110c junction temp so your only 2c away there's surely something that can be done.

Thank's, reading... :)

With the original settings i think its throttling by a good chunk, with the other settings i posted its just on the brink, with a 45c Edge to Junction delta.... crazy.

Edit: i know this forum, haven't been there in a decade... lol

Interesting, looks like these are quite finicky RE: cooler assembly, with pressure ecte...

I wonder if the cooler has moved slightly when it was not in use for a week, when i first reapplied the new compound the results were better that what it was out of the box and quite satisfactory, its only when i come back that i now have this huge delta between Edge and Junction.

I'll take the cooler off it again, maybe tomorrow, thank's for your help.

I tried that previously, it didn't seem to make a difference, the cooler its self is not good. https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/asrock-challenger-d-rx-5700-xt-oc.b7196

you say you changed the thermal paste, why not try it again or use different paste

I myself changed the paste on my 5700xt sapphire nitro+ se think I saw slight improvement I also applied it 3 times  thinking I may have applied too much did the spreading method then did the blob method some reason in my head I either feel I apply too much or too little

my temps when fully stressed 2100mhz 1.190v ingame 2064-2069mhz temps 74-75 , Junction 90-95c left stressing for 1hr my fan RPM is 1800-2000rpm

Pulled the Cooler off again, the top of the die had a very thin layer (Almost none) in the middle with a thicker layer around the edge, i don't think the cold plate on the cooler is completely flat.

Reapplied, spread it out... put the cooler back on, Edge Temps are still around ~70c with the junction Temps back down to ~95c, so from a 45c Delta back to a 25c Delta.

Lets see how long it lasts.

interesting. His waterblock wasn't making good contact. Found some screws that were incorrect. Fixed it and his junction temps went down by 15C or so.

For future reference, issues I identified:
Several screws longer than the 4mm thread length recommended
Curved board, causing some type of binding
Misplaced thermal pad (probably not critical)

Adrenalin 2020 Edition 20.9.1 is terrible for me... 3 black screens over 2 days. The system is able to recover though, which would normally not be the case, however, any 3d applications have to be restarted. Going back to 20.7.2. Now it could be a windows update again but I cannot be bothered troubleshooting it so back I go :D.

B450 all 4 dimms allocated.
Vega 64
Windows 10 2004.
Running dual monitor(1440p,75hz, freesync on & 1080p,75hz, Freesync off)

Just wondering.

Have you updated the bios, did you also update the AMD chipset drivers too?

Granted I am running on a 5700XT and running on a X570 system.

I know sometimes when I use enhanced sync, it can cause issues - which is daft as thats not been fully fixed yet AMD, enhanced sync is a defining feature of your drivers yet its having issues on modern drivers.
