The AMD Driver Thread

Yay, fake frames and fake resolutions in even more games!

I'm with @AMD_Vik, I'm not a fan (I think it was you that said that right Vik?)
don't worry about what i think, i'm still playing games from 2007 on a regular basis. halo 3 custom games are still so much fun to play with friends.

but no i've not felt the need to framegen or upscale even on contemporary games i play.

right now that's eft (spt + sain + fika for co-op), a little bit of valheim, and a tiny bit of deadzone rogue. on fedora instead of windows, mind you.

eft can kinda chug, i suppose.

Reddit says the vulkan files were included in the driver

Looks like the new driver already contains the new file amdvkffx64.dll. But CIG still need a new SDK compatible Vulkan.

If that's true and SC was already running 3.1 then wouldn't the driver inject the FSR 4 .dll.

I'm going to try it but IDK what version of FSR SC is running....

Nope.... they must be running and older version, i'll ask the devs about it on the forum.

I too am playing a lot of older games that don't have upscaling in them (or at least not fsr).
I guess I'm just disappointed that GPU advancement is moving from them working on better hardware to run games faster, to software that might allow 90% of my frames to be hallucinated while actually rendering at lower and lower resolutions. Then add a few more tricks to their anti-lag solution so I don't notice as much delay from all the hallucinated frames.

Sadly this seems to be the same across the board and not just one company.

How are you managing HDR in Fedora? I've got it enabled in display settings and the desktop environment looks perfect compared to the washed out mess that is Windows, but the games aren't recognising that HDR is available and not providing options for it, although they do look like nice it's enabled.

he says fsr4 works in vulkan as optiscaler team grabbed the vulkan files so vulkan might work that way now.

Easy Anitcheat, i've tried it once in the past and it didn't like it, i'll try it again soon to see if the driver having the .dll make a difference, i doubt it but worth a try.

Already had it working natively via optiscaler in No Man's Sky - it's pretty good (seems better than the previous optiscaler DX12/vulkan FSR4.1.1 method

I was playing some Darktide today and Ray Regen is an option for ray traced reflections. Both options hit hard though and my 9070xt struggles to maintain 60fps, at 4k performance.

Unfortunately, it's either that or be playing your games at 12 fps. What can be modelled has outstripped the ability to build consumer hardware to run it, so we get these workarounds. Nvidia's push for ray-tracing and now AI as a product differentiator meant that we were always going to end up with upscaling/frame generation technology to make up the difference. We will need some incredible technology breakthrough to do otherwise, but for the GPU manufacturers, upscaling and frame regeneration are those solutions because they can't build the alternatives. Just wait until the next "solution" to this issue is for you to own nothing, and all your computing/gaming is rented via a subscription from an AI datacenter where you play your games remotely.

At least it's always a choice to enable these fake frames, or lower the resolution/fidelity, play older games or stick with unplayable frame rates. More choices are always better, but that doesn't mean that all the choices are better, and it never has.
