*** The AMD RDNA 4 Rumour Mill ***

I agree fake MSRP is terrible. But that doesn’t make the original 3080 “better value” because plenty of people got a 9070 XT at MSRP. Can’t you see how contradictory your premise is?

I'm looking at my own situation not others
I mean you could say the 3080 was better value because it wasn't far off in performance over the much more expensive 3090 and the performance uplift from 20 series was big ? We can't say that now can we

Yes although the 9070xt is better deal in the current releases, still should be replacing the 7800xt at the price that released but it is what it is and MAYBE I'll buy one if prices drop later on what choices do I have ? Still won't go out my way to praise it like some are

There’s the problem right there. GPU releases can’t solely be judged in a personal bubble. In the wider scheme of things and in the current climate, the 9070 and 9070 XT has been well received by the tech press and consumers. While the 5000 series has been a disaster along with and how arrogant, dishonest and dismissive Nvidia have been.

If AMD and Nvidia have truly learned anything from their respective releases, then we will find out soon. But right now AMDs mind share a much improved and Nvidia’s has taken a massive hit.

On that metric alone AMD can call this a success.

I didn't say it wasn't a success, most of it because Nvidia don't care not because it's amazing offering

Gonna be interesting what next generation brings imo Nvidia won't want to continue like this

But that’s were we partly disagree and again you are basing that on personal opinion (and the tech press are on my side here). The 9070 and 9070 XT are genuinely good GPUs with much improved features and MSRP* prices that are good on their own merits. The 9070XT meets and even exceeds the performance of their previous gen flagship and with a significant price decrease. By that metric (as an example of an opinion), they actually are “amazing”.

They aren’t doing well “mostly” because Nvidia messed up. Nvidia may have left an open goal, but AMD still had to have the ability and work for the goal. Nvidia knew exactly what what they were doing with Blackwell and it delivers exactly what they wanted it to deliver at prices they planned.

AMD didn’t win just by default. They just finally delivered something that made the tech press and consumers take notice. That’s how mindshare is built.

*Yes scalping exists but that affects Nvidia as well. So the general price gaps remain.

Taking inflation into account, the £600 I paid on launch day for my RX 6800 would equate to £753 today - and the 9070 cards are significantly more capable than that.

Think best to leave it what we might differ what we consider is amazing or not

You keep bringing this down to your personal opinion. I used the AMD flagship comparison to show how some other personal perspective might be completely different to your own narrow perspective.

I’m looking at this through a wide lens’s at the entire GPU scene and objectively from that perspective, RDNA4 delivers a significant improvement on price, performance and features. It has in one generation brought AMD functional parity in features for a very competitive price point. It stacks up incredibly well on its own merits and as such has been well received by mainstream tech journalists and consumers.

That has nothing to do with Nvidia, that’s AMD finally delivering a compelling and competitive option at a good price point.

Yes it's my opinion even in the wider GPU scene it's decent product from everything that's available now at MSRP, not amazing that's my OPINION

I’m not attacking your opinion, just pointing out how other people and wider groups and even AMD themselves can view it all very differently. The wider view is it has substantially increased AMDs mindshare and market share as well as been very well received on its own merits. These are objectively provable facts.

Like I said compared to previous gen GPUs it could be perceived as “amazing”. That’s not me saying its amazing, just pointing out how opinions work and can be very different when based on differing criteria.

I can see how it looks amazing due to nVidia launching a 5 series with barely any stock and therefore availability to purchase at MSRP, if an MSRP even exists on certain cards.

nVidia gave AMD an open goal this time, and they finally took it.

While I do think AMD have released a decent product I think they also did that last generation too.
I think if we check VAR we will see that it was in fact an own goal by Nvidia.
If Nvidia had given generational improvements at a similar level to the previous gen, if they'd solved the power connector issue, if they'd had better drivers, if they'd had better stock and if they'd had better prices then I think the 5000 series would've done better to the detriment of the 9000 series sales. All of these things are down to Nvidia, the 9000 series didn't cause any of those Nvidia problems.

A 9070XT is 63% faster than a 4 year old 6800 according to TPU, for reference the 6800 on launch was 92% faster than a GTX1080

Also remember that this gen, as far as we know AMD aren't competing at the high end and still don't have anything to touch Nvidia's previous gen top card.

AMD haven't moved performance forward compared to what Nvidia had two years ago, they've just improved the price point.
Remember too that they delayed their announcement until Nvidia had shown their hand in the price/performance stakes. Even then they had to ask YouTubers how to price their GPUs at a price where they would sell. This seemingly resulted in prices dropping from what retailers had paid for the cards leading to the limited number of rebates we heard about.

So it's not like AMD have exactly played a blinder here.

But let’s not overlook that despite the open goal, AMD still had to deliver a compelling product. The fact that RDNA 4 made big improvements in the areas AMD were perceived as lacking has been fundamental in scoring that goal.

If it wasn’t for FSR4 and the improved RT, I don’t think the reviews would have been as glowing.

Let me put it this way, if 9070XT was just a cheaper 7900 XT or even XTX, it would have been far less well reviewed and received. It may even have been laughed off the pitch.

That's not overlooked, it was obvious they couldn't just come out with a cheaper 7900-type product, and we knew they were working on FSR4 and improving RT performance, that was an absolute must.

The point was that if nVidia had released the 5070ti with availability and/or a price close to $700, these AMD products wouldn't have sold anywhere near as well. It's easy to win back some mind/market share when your competitor leaves the door wide open like that. We'll see over the next year or so if it's sustainable.

Plus Nvidia drivers are terrible atm, so even if you get a rtx5000 you have to deal with ****** drivers

Where as amd drivers are good atm

Oh how the turntables turn

I think that's a bit of a stretch, while some seem to be having problems, there are others like me on a 5080 who have had almost no problems. The only thing I've had is a black screen during installation, and turning my monitor off and on fixed it.

They've definitely dropped the ball on them, but it's still a minority that are experiencing issues that are affecting their ability to actually use their cards properly.
