The Americanisation of the BBC

It can't be that popular, nobody talks about it like they do about rugger or footy (proper). Do you know anyone who talks about US football?

Also re topic I love the way there's almost as much coverage of US politics as their is UK politics now.

I think part of it is that the BBC's remit is now general entertainment more than public service. Even the news is a form of entertainment today.

The NFL International Series manages to pack London stadia to capacity and has been doing for the decade or more it's been going on. There's an American Football league amongst UK universities that's been running since 2007 and has 75 competing teams. Hardly niche for a sport that hasn't had anything in the way of a grassroots movement here for very long.

Hello

I played Ice Hockey... Why on earth would I want to play American football when Rubgy League followed Union is still the better game :)

No sorry, no amount of have you played or is stats based or is very tactical is going to sway me. Its dull.

Oh and yes the Guardian is state sponsored by Russia. It never has anything good to say about anything positive in the UK. Every article is written about the poor plight of some minority. (Like American football in the UK)

Good god the Left can't tolerate anything or anyone whose opinions differ from their own can they? I notice the Guardian has been going full on hate job on GB news whipping up all the loony lefties into a froth, that paper should have been shut down years ago, its the paper alter ego of the BBC which should be renamed the GBC the Guardian Broadcasting Corporation which I'm still paying a bloody fee for!

He ain't on the BBC anymore incase you noticed sidelined for more woke and PC candidates shoved in our faces no matter how little suited they are for it.

If we where in the USA there's no doubt you'd be a CNN hater and a Trump supporter, we've all seen how that's went.

I don't watch it but it's a huge event and they only cover it once a year I guess?

I mean, I'd rather the BBC drop local TV/radio and put the saved bandwidth towards increasing the main freeview/freesat HD channel quality instead of having all those local SD channels clogging things up, but people's opinions differ :p

It's only a big even in one part of the world. Most of the world doesn't give a damn, and the UK isn't really that interested in US sports. I've seen more European handball in the UK than US sports.

Doesn't mean they shouldn't broadcast it though. The BBC is constantly pumping up all the shows it has it though. Remember when Mad Men was on the BBC? The BBC website would carry a new Mad Men article on the front page pretty much once a week.

No I don’t know anyone who talks about Gridiron Football, but more important to me is that fortunately I don’t know anyone who calls rugby rugger, or football footy.
What’s next, kedgeree for breakfast, and quinoa for tiffin?
