Thank you all.
Is 3dmark still a usefull tool to run to show performance?
Agreed. I would pass synthetics but crash in RDR2.Obviously that is only a synthetic test, and not quite the same as real life use, for better or worse.
I would stay away from programs like furnark/kombuster etc as they are known to test at the extreme.
If you have games that don't max out the GPU, you could try using DSR to increase the resolution to make your GPU work harder. This is also a good way of getting better visuals at lower monitor resolutions if you have performance to spare. And there are plenty of games the 3090 can do that with, running at 4K on a 1440 monitor for example.
I do this with my 4090, as that has plenty of headroom in a lot of titles.
I see a lot of used 3090's for sale at the moment.
Yes that's what put me off. It's tricky to know what to go for today. May be clearer in a couple of months, if I can wait that longSo many were used for mining I guess and no longer viable…
Is £465 used a good price for this? someone is selling one who lives near me,but I'm unsure as I read a lot of stuff about the vram getting really hot
They're not my friend but they live in my area and it still has just over 13 months warranty left. They have taken it down from sale, and I'm going to his house tomorrow to test it on his PC,so hopefully everything's goodYes a good price as they easily sell for £650 and up.
Even if it is the FE model from nvidia that has the so called heat issue on vram it is a good price as the heat issue only affected people mining on them in reality not using them for normal use, so go grab it before your friend sticks it up for sale elsewhere and he would even get more going to the local computer exchange place in the highstreet, also as the person is your friend i'm sure they can help you with warranty issues too and should be a more trusted person to buy from too.
