**The ASrock 939dual-SATA2 (ULi M1695) thread**

thanks Uriel, as its the kids pc, I only use the onboard sound for them anyway.

Certainly good to know that they could have an AM2, plus a 8800GT (? 3870X2) which will keep them going for a long time.

Wonder if Phenom works in it :P

According to what I've seen on another forum, the Phenom doesn't currently work (fails to POST) and it's unlikely that it will work. The best we can hope for is an updated or modded BIOS. Unfortunately this is unlikely as, IIRC, Phenoms require a 4MB BIOS chip. The 939Dual-Sata2 has a 2 MB BIOS chip.

There is more hope for the 939Dual-VSTA as it has a 4mb chip.

Edit: Aha! On the matter of the X-Fi problem I see IRQ conflicts with the X-Fi and PCI to USB controller. Let's see what we can do...
Further Edit: Oh dear. Prime95 Blend test failure. I'm just retesting at stock...

Further to edits of the last post, I'm getting S&M test failure for L1 Cache @ 3GHz. Definitely stable at stock so I got what I paid for. Will have to mess about with voltages or drop the clock.

Edit: 3GHz stable at 1.375v. I'll probably shut up about this for a while, aside from posting some photos.

Can someone confirm, if doing a clean install of Windows XP 64-bit, that the ULI integrated 2.20 drivers are all that I need, will give me audio, network etc. I don't need SATAII and don't use AGP video

Someone on the OCWorkbench forums is working on a Phenom compatible BIOS for this and a few other ASROCK boards using the AM2CPU upgrade board. Will keep you all posted if anything comes of it.

Edit: They're looking for volunteer testers, if anyone fancies it.

Just as an update. I upgraded my ASROCK 939Dual-Sata2 machine this weekend (Was acting as a server running XP)

It is now running Windows Server 2008. All the drivers loaded by default except for sound; As it's a server I'm not to worried about that.

@Shaddow
Hi! Funny thing I installed the 64bit version of this OS on the same MB , on the same day. I was looking for help on Lan driver and I stumbled upon this forum. By the way, this is a great forum for sharing hardware experiences.
Do you exerience the same thing as me?: network connection is so long to start with the default driver. It seems it's a known problem but no one has found a fix.
As for me, I tried the Uli unified driver (v.2.20) from Nvidia site to no avail.
Any idea?

I need some help, I'm having real problems with my dual sata2, when booting into windows it will get so far then just freeze with the hard drive light on all the time, it takes me about 20 attempts just to get into windows, its done it a long time but its getting worse and worse now, I have a 250 deskstar on the sata 2 port as my boot drive, another drive on a sata 1 port and another hard drive on an IDE channel.

Any idea's folks?

Cheers.

Same thing's happening to my nephew. He has busted 2 sata drives in a matter of few months. He's going to switch to an intel board.
Mine is doing fine, except that lagging NIC(due to inadequate driver), with Windows Server 2008 x64 on it.

Oh dear, these failures don't sound good... Mine is 3 yrs and 3 mths old, now in the hands of my brother, and has run 24/7 fully loaded for virtually all this time and continues to run 24/7 fully loaded. Failures are awkward because getting a replacement socket 939 board now would be next to impossible, so the pretty quick 2.6GHz Opteron 185 in it in my case would sadly no longer have a home

DFI Lans should still be knocking around on the bay

Yeah, it's getting so bad now that I'm thinking of going intel, always been an AMD man but fancy a change, its strange as when it gets into windows its rock solid, and when you do a warm restart like after an update it boots fine, its just from cold I get the problem.

I'm still getting exactly the same 2 cold boot symptoms (though not at the same time) since I got the SATA drive 3 years ago. No better - no worse :).

Sometimes it will just kick the drive off and I have to go into the bios to rest it. It's 12 key presses - which I can do in my sleep now.

Other times it gets as far as the Windows loading bar and hangs there needing a reset.

Other than this, it has been a great board. For £50 I was able to use my old components and build gradually as I could afford it.

I plan to upgrade with a good budget soon and you know what I'm gonna miss this morning routine :D. It's like saying goodbye to an old friend and how odd it will seem to have a computer which boots up first time in the morning!

This little board just won't die. Tomshardware just did an article about AGP gaming on it in August 2009: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/agp-radeon-overclocking,review-31662.html

Still my favourite motherboard ever( Edit: My first post on OCUK was in this thread back in Jan 2006, having just installed it and having a stable PC for the first time in months). Still going strong in my machine. I had some problems with my AM2CPU upgrade (which may have been down to my incompetence) but all stable and running nicely.

Edit: I never did get an X-Fi Xtreme Music (2 versions SB0460 and SB0770) to play nicely with 4GB RAM on this board. Xonar D2 and Auzentech X-Fi Prelude are both fine though. I also haven't been able to submit 3dMark06 results since adding the AM2CPU board.
