**The ASrock 939dual-SATA2 (ULi M1695) thread**

Just checking (in the light of all these new cards that are turning up soon). Is the PCI-E x16 slot on these boards a 1.0 or a 1.1 spec?

Edit: Doesn't look good. The ULi M1695 chipset is listed as PCI-e 1.0a (whatever that means).

does that mean the current 8800's will work with this motherboard? is anybody runinng a 8800GTX or 8800GTS with this board? Im thinking of picking either up very soon. If the new 8800 ones are PCI-e v2.0 it might mean i have to pick one up now. Does anyone know if PCI-E v2.0 is backwards compatible?

A quick google tells me that there are plenty of people running current flavour 8800GTS / GTX cards with this board. It's only soon-to-be released PCI-e 2.0 cards that are doubt. I'm fairly optimistic that they'll work.

Well i might just bite the bullet now and get a GTX, dont wanna get a new card to find it wont work! apparently PCI-e v2 wont work with 1.0a boards anyway. Even i get a GTX now i can still use it when i upgrade sometime next year to C2D....

But the new GTS looks tempting! I hate these kind of dilemmas!

there no reason to think a pci v2 card wont work right now since v2 is supossably completely compatable with v1 slots. theres nothing to say otherwise at the moment and wont really know untill the v2 cards are released and tested on v1 boards.

I run a 8800GTS overclocked on this mobo with no problems. In fact this mobo has not only been the cheapest but the most stable I've ever owned, it's heavily overclocked and runs flawlessly 24/7! Love it.

I'm about to buy the AM2CPU riser car and grab for 3.5GHz + :D

I wonder if they'll do an AM2+ riser card for full fat Phenom upgrades?

If the PCI-E 2.0 cards are compatible and that happens I could see me keeping the current build for a long time.

Im off work for a week from the 19th oct, and wanted to get in some heavy gaming during that time. I know my head is saying to wait till the new 8800's come out at the end of october but then ill have nothing to do during my week off! So think ill go for a 8800GTX now; i know it will work with the mobo as its PCI-E 1.1, and should last me a while until i need to do a full upgrade. Anyway, i dont think the new 8800GTX will be much better than the current one, plus i cant get it for about £275 which is a good price. Can anyone convince me otherwise to hold off getting a GTX now at that price?

Does anyone remember how to modify the CPU voltage past 1.45volts on these?

My Opteron 144 is currently sat at 2.8GHz (stock is 1.8GHz) but with 1.55v it should hit 3GHz, perhaps a touch more.

And presumably the gigabit ethernet card you've ordered has Vista64 drivers...

Yep, I checked. I ordered a D-Link DGE528T. Supposedly it's auto-detected by vista. I've got the manufacturer's vista64 drivers ready and waiting to be on the safe side.

Edit: I heard rumours about the J-Micron SATA2 controller being problematic. Have grabbed vista drivers for that too. Did it cause problems for anyone here with a SATA2 HDD?
