are you running the Hdd on sataII port look like my problem i had at first ?
this board can be very picky regards sataII Hdd's if thats what you using.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think I read somewhere also that there are updated drivers for the SATA II chip ?

you have to install the Uli updated stand alone AGP driver (2.3) web-site not the one on the disc.

Cocker92 Bingo!! - it was in my post 10 up from urs pls read thread before posting thks

Doesn't matter.

But.....

It's the same with my Opteron 144 CABNE 0540, Opteron CABGE 0536 and my Opteron CAB2E 0545 using any and all of the various bios versions.

were you running 1T? with 2 sticks you have to use 2T.

1T , 2T doesn't matter, it'll crash.
My memory is currently running at 186 2-2-2-5-1T

i have had an intermittant problem where the 2nd SATA drive (not SATAII) is intermittantly not picked up in the bios on rebooting. i know the drive is working fine and i have tried different sata leads - i have a feeling it is a problem on the board

it only happens occasionally and less so since i dropped my overclock a little to 265x10 1.45 volts

silly question - do you need different leads for a SATAII hdd and do they come with the drive when you buy an oem one?

thanks

SATA and SATAII leads are the same and usually come withthe motherboard and NOT with OEM drives.

No idea on why your drive is occasionally missed though.

Mmmmmmmmmmmm, yesterday I flashed to the newer 1.50 bios.
Set the CPU to the limit imposed by the bios (HTT-274) and the memory to dual channel 133 in the bios resulting in an overclock of 2740Mhz with the memory at 186 2-2-2-5-T1. Perfectly stable as usual.

Now, this morning, I decided to have another play with the Ballistx memory.
Currently it's running in dual channel @ 274Mhz 3-7-3-3-T2 1:1 bios divider.
Seems to be stable but it's early doors yet.

I love overclocking.

How much room is there around the socket for a large heatsink on this board ? Is anyone using a Thermaltake K8 Silent Boost, or know if it will fit ?

hi, can someone point me in the right direction to uninstall the gfx driver i installed off the asrock cd prior to installing the 6800 drivers. THEN i can install the uli updated stand alaone agp (2.3)

hi,

if its the agp drivers think there listed in add/remove programs, best to change bios to use pci gfx then boot into safe mode ,remove them , boot back into safe mode to apply new ones, then change bios back to agp and all should go.

hi,

think the default is pci, so if you've had a problem with starting up and had to power on/off a few times to get it to boot it may have been reset.

i have a thermaltake silent tower fitted with plenty of space

my prob with this board was the southbridge passive cooler was getting extremely toastie and heating up my agp graphics card that overhangs it

i have modified (i.e. hacksawed/filed) a zalman passive cooler to fit here instead (pics will follow soon) and all is well again

Southbridge getting hot ? Interesting
Would some AS5 re-applied with the existing passive cooler have made a difference ?

Probally not. If the heatsink is getting hot then the heat from the chip below it is being transferred to the heatsink just fine. A fan or larger surface area would help with cooling. AS5 doesn't cool, it helps with the transfer of heat from one surface to another.

Ah yes of course.
First time I've heard of a southbridge getting hot though. Presumably doesn't cause a problem for most people

basically the gold heatsink with 'asrock' it was under part of my agp 6800le
it was heating up til it was hot to touch and warming that area of the 6800 considerably. it is also close to the second sata connector that had been intermittantly not seen by the bios on boot up

the 6800 does not get hot now as the zalman draws the heat away better than before

when i change to pci-e the card hopefully will not impinge on the southbridge area and i will replace my hacksawed cooler with a normal one :)
