The Asus ROG SWIFT PG278Q – a 27” 1400p 144Hz Monitor with G-SYNC

Not being mugged off over this, price is a disgrace, I'll pick one up in the States later in the year... For $800 and still be better off once I've cleared shipping and tax.

BTW that's a $420 mark up on retail.

PRE-ORDER NOW

I will let you guys know when our first batch of allocation has sold out, it won't last long so get your pre-orders in now!! :)

That's a really fair price, I love it. I'm gonna order one of these when they get slightly cheaper though since I've decided to buy X99 mobo, may aswell wait :)

The price hiking and gouging is a bit whiffy, but idiots will buy it.

It's still overpriced though for a TN panel, even if the price drops a bit when more stock arrives.

Some basic costings...

A 4k TN panel can be had for about £470. This is 'only' 2560 x 1440 so should cost less than that. Let's say £350 absolute max. Add on the 120hz premium that gaming monitors carry, call that £100, so we're at £450. Add on the Gsync premium that seems to be about £150(?) and you're at £600.

Then take off the pointless ROG premium, get a bit of competition going and add a dash of sanity, and retailers should be selling monitors like this for about £580 now, £500 in a few months.

I'm still waiting for a 3440 x 1400 superwide, IPS (or VA at a push), with Gsync, that overclocks a bit to 75hz. Come on boffins, pull your ****ing fingers out!

Ordered one :D

Gibbo, What is the first batch allocation size like?

I guess quite a few more than 20 given the price?

Yes, if I'd have got less than 20, we would be talking £899, so I have more and so far we still have spare available from first batch, so keep pre-ordering guys. :)

It's immediate I'm afraid.

Price is relative to scarcity and competition and this monitor has very little of both at present. Haters gonna hate I guess.

Well, £720 is not overly bad if the actual RRP is going to be £699. However, £699 seems a little on the high side for where this product was originally pitched.

I just want to know how good the TN panel actually is compared to some of the older 120Hz TN models.

Gibbo, are you taking Pre-order funds immediately or on shipping?

My order has gone to warehouse queue, so processed through the OcUK system and my credit card is saying "Pending transactions (£719.99)".

Works well like this and is the price you pay (a months interest on your cash!) to be first in the queue for a limited monitor.
If there was any payment issues in a months time and I missed out or something that would be damn annoying!

AFAIK the real RRP is closer to £669. OCUK have admitted that they are charging a premium due to availability.

For me if that monitor is nothing short of revolutionary when it comes to gaming I will return it - the last thing I want though is for the reviews to come out and echo what Gibbo has already mentioned and for there to be no stock.

If your a gamers playing FPS games and your system does not have enough VGA power to always keep you above 60fps then you will notice a dramatic improvement.

Even if your managing plus 60fps always you will still have benefits such as never having any screen tearing. :)

To be fair I think the price is in part jutified given the 2560x1440 144hz combination. I'm also very interested in the UMLB mode which benefits those that can maintain high FPS.

Did you try that mode?
