The bad thing about parking sensors

Due to having just bought a car with a tow bar I am now paranoid about reversing into stuff.

Someone I know has already reversed into it and cracked their bumper (they were in a Mondeo).

When it comes to parking, I rock. Any size space, bingo, I can get the 5 into it neatly, quickly and efficiently. I've never had an issue. The parking sensors are also really handy but hey, we don't rely on them. It's just another useful aid.

So today I reverse park the 1 Series. No parking sensors. No problem, its a small car.

Epic fail. I ended up about 2 foot from the curb thinking I was about to touch the car behind. Left the car and the gap between the rear of my car and the parked car was not the 3 inches I thought it was but.. a good 4 foot.

:(

Don't worry about it mate, I can reverse park an artic pretty much anywhere, my car? - it ends up sat about 2ft from the kerb wherever I park it! :o

In which case they could have backed into a giant marshmallow and it would have still cracked :D

He'd just had a new bumper put on aswell. I'll ask him if he'd previousely reveresed in to marshmallow (and if it had a tow bar fitted).

parking sensors are for WEENIES!

having said that i thought i would not be able to live without them after having the st, alas, the golf is a much smaller car even though it feels big inside

You obviously need to learn to drive with a bottle or cup between you're legs then.
And then do it in a manual and make sure you open up just enough to get movment from your leg to push the clutch in with out knocking the driver over and not too much so it doesnt fall over.

Its a great skill to have :p

Your Golf has no PDC  I thought it was a high spec uber expensive ubergolf

Last week I heard a story of a woman (what else :p ) who usually has a car with parking sensors but got a rental car as her car was getting a service and while parking she was waiting for the parking beep and did not think about the fact she was in a different card that did not have sensors and drove right into the car behind her parking space :o
