*** The BBC F1 2012 Coverage Thread ***

Maybe they need to keep people subscribed though since they pay so much to carry the sport, so why risk alienating the customers (as they already stated they won't do) which could turn them away and make them lose money.

I think for Jake it is a move that is no doubt motivated by a huge salary increase, as BT is spending a lot of money on sport and obviously wants to grow that side of their business significantly. It's what everyone does, so can't blame him for that, it is a shame though.

In the long term though, I'm not sure it was the best decision. Whether you like him or not, it was clear he was being groomed as a future lead anchor for BBC Sport. Just look at the Olympics, he knew well in advance he was going to be doing it and had a big role amongst their most seasoned presenters. That's not to say he couldn't come back one day I suppose. It must be a pretty big blow for the Beeb though.

If things continue the way they are, it wouldn't surprise me if the BBC don't bid the next time the F1 rights are up.

As for Sky, they won't bring in adverts during the race, they know full well how much that would anger the audience. They still run hours of advertising during race weekends and have the highly profitable slots just before the race starts and when it ends. Also let's not forget that unlike ITV we also pay a subscription fee to Sky.

See post #243 Jake is off to present the Premiership on the new BT sport channel so this season is his last.

Shame as for me he's the best front man F1 has had.

Love those little docu-style bits Coulthard does explaining things like the warm up lap and what goes off in the cockpit.

I think he has just had a baby and probably doesn't want to spend most of the year away from home like he does currently.

Please not Perry!. Would just devalue the sport if shes involved remembering how average at best she was when she did MotoGP...

I've just got images of F1 coverage Gadget Show style, and Eddie being an unbearable perve.
Its quite simple for me, Leigh seems to have the respect of the F1 teams and drivers (definitely rapport with most of the drivers), I just cant see where anyone down the pitlane would take Suzi seriously considering her biker chick/groupie history
