*** The BBC F1 2012 Coverage Thread ***

They have done the F1 forum for some of the non-live races but not all.
Jake's away doing the Olympics at the moment, which might be a factor for no F1 forum for the German race and probably Hungary as well.

Wow, didn't see Mr. BBC leaving for something like that, must have offered him mega-bucks! :D

Although, cynicism aside, he's just announced his missus is expecting, so this will allow him to be at home more.

Anybody else think it could mean that this will be the last year of f1 on the bbc?

I've thought that since the day Sky signed their deal.

I just can't see them keeping live coverage for much longer. I hope they do though, as its the 1 thing stopping Sky filling the race with adverts.

The BBC have the F1 deal for another 6 or 7 years. It's a good way to fill a Sunday afternoon that would normally get very few viewers. I don't think sky would ever do a F1 race and put adverts in it. They would get lynched by fans. They don't do it for football, they won't do it for F1.

Jake is about to become a dad. No one wants to be away for probably 90+ days a year when you have a baby a home. I think he's made the correct decision for himself and his family.

If they were the sole F1 broadcaster, why wouldn't they?

All the launch marketing for the SSF1HD channel included the very deliberately specific line of "all races live an uninterrupted in 2012"...

You hang way too much on that line as all it was just a dig at the BBC, no reason for them to have adverts and they are the sole broadcaster this year for 10 races and have no adverts. They never had adverts when they done F1 in the past either, while ITV did so would have been easy to follow suit.

A spokesperson for Sky Sports told AUTOSPORT: "We won't have adverts while the races are running. We know they were very unpopular in the past and we don't have to go down that route."

Nothing has changed really.

I think there will be add breaks in 2013.

Will be sorry to see Jake go, I like him as the main presenter.

Not sure what the "face" of BT vision actually does - I had the service until recently I cant really imagine much work in it (apart from perhaps one day in a studio)

Happy (for him) to hear he is starting a family though

I wonder if they will explore going down the route that other foreign broadcasters like ESPN and TSN have done with side by side advertising.

If anyone doesn't know what it is, it's basically a dual display of both the race and adverts but with the audio from the advert playing.

Maybe, but if Sky have exclusive F1 rights, they have no need at all to try to 'please' their viewers by limiting the impact of in race adverts.
